Greylock Energy, Former Pure-Play M-U, Buys Western O&G Assets

    June 16, 2022June 16, 2022

Here’s some major news that we confess we somehow missed back in March. Greylock Energy, which is headquartered in Charleston, WV, and has (until recently) been a pure-play natural gas driller in the Marcellus/Utica, now owns assets and drills for oil (and gas) in Utah and Wyoming. Kyle Mork, president and CEO of Greylock Energy, addressed Hart Energy’s DUG East conference in Pittsburgh yesterday. He talked extensively about Greylock’s decision to “go West young molecule” (our words). Why the Uinta and Green River Basin? Why now?

PA Rep. Metcalfe Floats Resolution to Impeach DEP Sec. McDonnell

    June 16, 2022June 16, 2022

Two days ago Pennsylvania House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee (ERE) Majority Chairman Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) issued a co-sponsorship memo asking for other House members to sponsor a resolution with him calling for the impeachment of outgoing Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary Patrick McDonnell. Metcalfe calls the measure his “parting gift” to McDonnell who is leaving the agency on July 2nd (see PA DEP Secretary Pat McDonnell Leaving Agency July 2nd). Metcalfe accuses McDonnell of “flagrant violations of our state Constitution and statutes throughout his tenure.”

Toby Rice: NatGas Leads the Charge on Energy Security & Climate

    Toby Rice

EQT CEO Toby Rice is and has been on a mission–to spread the gospel of LNG (see EQT CEO Toby Rice Unveils Nationwide Plan to “Unleash” U.S. LNG). Rice continued to spread the good news of LNG at a meeting of the faithful yesterday in Pittsburgh. Speaking to Hart Energy’s DUG East conference, Rice said zero-carbon solutions are not yet ready to meet the world’s demand for energy, but low-carbon solutions, like LNG, are ready today.

WV Legislators Look for Solution to Maryland Blocking Potomac Pipe

    June 16, 2022June 16, 2022

Columbia Gas, a subsidiary of Canada-based TC Energy (formerly TransCanada), wants to build a tiny 3.37-mile, 8-inch pipeline under the Potomac River from Maryland to West Virginia. The Eastern Panhandle Expansion, as it is called, is being blocked by the lefties in Maryland (see Fed Judge Upholds Maryland Decision to Block Pipe Under Potomac). West Virginia House of Delegates members recently debated what could be done to overcome Maryland’s illegal blockade of the pipeline.

A fuel cell manufacturer located in Westmoreland County, PA, WATT Fuel Cell, disclosed in February that it had closed on its latest round of financing and that its biggest investor is EQT Corporation (see EQT Invests in Fuel Cell Co. – Foresees Future Market for NatGas). WATT added EQT CEO Toby Rice to its board of directors. The company and its product have taken the next step. WATT recently announced its fuel cell has won an important product certification from ETL.

Chesapeake COO Says NatGas is Part of Solution to Low-Carbon Future

    June 16, 2022June 16, 2022

Among the speakers who addressed the conference delegates at Hart Energy’s DUG East conference on Tuesday was Chesapeake Energy COO Josh Viets. He traced the roots of the current energy crisis back to decisions and events some 20 years ago. Viets said, “Access to energy correlates to quality of life, and the industry has a responsibility to work to provide energy that is affordable, reliable and low-carbon.” Europe, said Viet, dropped the ball beginning 20 years ago by buying into the hype about so-called renewable energy and forsaking fossil fuel development, while the U.S. invested in fracking and fossil fuels, leading to our energy independence under Donald J. Trump.

What is a Hydrogen Hub? How Much Does it Really Cost?

Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia are all scrambling to form working groups or other alliances in an attempt to be THE state chosen for one of four $2 billion regional hydrogen hubs funded by the so-called Biden infrastructure bill (see WV, OH, PA Compete Against Each Other to Attract $2B Hydrogen Hub). The infrastructure bill provides $8 billion for four regional hydrogen hubs. It’s a safe bet one of those hubs will be located in either PA, OH, or WV–especially in light of an announcement last week by the U.S. Dept. of Energy that said two of the four hydrogen hubs would be located in regions “with abundant natural gas resources.” That means PA, OH, or WV will almost certainly be one of those locations.
