Gulfport Fires 13% of Workers, Ends Stock Buy-Back, Board Changes

    November 18, 2019November 20, 2019

Gulfport Energy, one of the biggest drillers in the Ohio Utica Shale (210,000 acres), concentrates its drilling in the Ohio Utica and the Oklahoma SCOOP plays. A few weeks ago the company announced they are shopping some of their non-operated assets in the Ohio Utica (see Gulfport 3Q – Looking to Sell Non-Operated Utica Assets). This morning the company made another major announcement: They are laying off 13% of the workforce, ending (for now) their stock share buy-back program, and “refreshing” the board with three new members.

PA One of Two Finalists for “Massive” Ethane Storage Hub

    November 18, 2019November 20, 2019

The Appalachia Development Group (ADG) is leading an effort to build a ~$3.3 billion NGL storage hub in Appalachia. From the start, the thinking has been the storage hub would be located somewhere in West Virginia (see WV’s US Senators Lead the Charge to Build $10B NGL Storage Hub). But what’s this? ADG Chairman and CEO Steven Hedrick, speaking at a conference last week, confirmed potential sites for the project have been narrowed down to two. And one of those sites, according to “sources” (not Hedrick), is located in southwestern Pennsylvania.

More M-U Gas to Missouri? MoGas Floats Plan to Expand Pipeline

    November 18, 2019November 20, 2019

Some Marcellus/Utica gas flows all the way to the Midwest, to markets that include Chicago and St. Louis. Last week we reported that the Spire STL Pipeline is ready to begin service, connecting to the Rockies Express (REX) pipeline to flow M-U gas to the St. Louis area (see Spire Pipeline Ready to Flow Marcellus/Utica Gas to St. Louis). A second company is now floating a plan to flow some of our molecules to customers in Illinois and Missouri.

Anti Group Loses Yet Another Penn Twp (PA) Frack Ban Case

    November 18, 2019November 20, 2019

A leftist anti-fossil group calling itself Protect PT, in Penn Township (Westmoreland County), PA, backed with big money from Big Green groups, continues to sue in an effort to block shale drilling in the township. And they keep losing their lawsuits. Protect PT has launched multiple challenges to a local Penn Township ordinance which allows Apex Energy and Huntley & Huntley to drill and operate wells.

Ohio’s Non-Drilling Counties Look to Profit from Utica Shale Too

    November 18, 2019November 18, 2019

Drilling is great for local counties when it arrives. Especially for the “supply chain” in those counties–companies that sell goods and services to drilling companies. Everything from retail to convenience stores to restaurants to hotels to trucking companies and more. But what about businesses in nearby counties without any drilling activity? Is there any way they can share in the bounty too? There sure is!

Seems like just yesterday that Dominion Energy’s Cove Point LNG export plant opened for business–in April 2018 (see First-Ever Shipment of Marcellus LNG Leaves Cove Point, Maryland). Fast forward a year and a half later and on Monday, November 11, Dominion loaded its 100th commercial LNG ship. Let’s celebrate!

PA’s Auditor General Presumes to Lecture State on Global Warming

    November 18, 2019November 18, 2019

Does anyone else grow weary of pompous Democrat windbags in high elected office in Pennsylvania posturing and preening to be the next gubernatorial candidate? PA’s leftist Attorney General Josh Shapiro is certainly one of them (see PA AG Continues Marcellus Witch Hunt, Impanels Grand Jury). We now have a second–the state’s Auditor General, Eugene DePasquale.

FBI Investigates Wolf Admin for Corruption re ME Pipe Permits

    November 15, 2019November 15, 2019
(Sacrificial) lamb roasting on a spit

Earlier this week the Associated Press, which sometimes can and sometimes can’t be trusted, broke an exclusive bombshell story in which they claim “sources” have told them the FBI has launched an investigation into the Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf administration over how permits came to be issued for the Mariner East 2 pipeline project. The focus of the investigation is on whether Wolf and his administration “forced environmental protection staff to approve construction permits” and whether Wolf or his administration received anything in return for those permits. Favors. Corruption. Kickbacks. That’s what’s being implied by the leakers who, of course, spoke only on condition of anonymity.

PennEast Pipe to Appeal Bungled Fed Court Decision to US Supremes

    November 15, 2019November 15, 2019

In September, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit issued a precedent-setting decision that disallows PennEast Pipeline from using the federally-delegated power of eminent domain to cross properties either owned by, or with easements granted to, the state of New Jersey (see Federal Court Rules PennEast Pipe Can’t Run Thru NJ State Land). PennEast asked the full court (all of the judges) to rehear the case, which they refused (see Fed Court Refuses to Reconsider PennEast Bad Decision – Now What?). We outlined two possible options for PennEast’s next move, one of them an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. PennEast chose that option yesterday.

Psychotic Cuomo to Cancel National Grid Gas Franchise in 2 Weeks

    November 15, 2019November 15, 2019

Man-child Andrew Cuomo, “governor” of New York State, is a truly desperate man. And desperate, corrupt politicians like Cuomo do desperate, mean, vicious and corrupt things–especially to protect their own backsides. Cuomo is following through on a recent threat he made to de-certify National Grid’s natural gas utility service that serves all of Long Island and parts of New York City. Just take it away from National Grid and (very corruptly) give it to another company (no doubt with lots of kickbacks to Cuomo’s campaign to follow).

Risberg PA-to-OH Pipeline Project Ready to Start Dec. 1

    November 15, 2019November 15, 2019

The Risberg Line, a 60-mile pipeline from Crawford County, PA to Erie County, PA, and from there across the border into Ashtabula County, OH, began construction in February (see Construction Begins on “Massive” PA to OH Risberg Pipeline). In October RH energytrans, the builder, said the project would be ready by Dec. 1 (see Risberg PA-to-OH Pipeline Project Almost Done, Ready by Dec. 1). And by golly, it is! Earlier this week RH energytrans asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for permission to start it up by Dec. 1.

Spire Pipeline Ready to Flow Marcellus/Utica Gas to St. Louis

    November 15, 2019November 15, 2019
Spire STL Pipeline route (click for larger version)

In 2016 Laclede Group, a St. Louis-based natural gas utility, said they want to build a 65-mile pipeline from St. Louis through southwest Illinois and connect to the Rockies Express (REX) and Panhandle Eastern Pipeline (see New Midwest Pipeline to Tap REX’s Marcellus/Utica Gas). The new pipeline would bring low-cost Marcellus and Utica Shale gas from REX to the utility–not only for resale to gas customers, but also potentially for new natgas-powered electric plants.

CNX Resources Quits Allegheny Conference Over Radicalized Agenda

    November 15, 2019November 15, 2019

Left-wingers opposed to fossil fuels have apparently infiltrated the non-profit Allegheny Conference on Community Development (Pittsburgh region), and Marcellus/Utica driller CNX Resources, one of the Conference’s corporate members, is quitting because of it. It’s about time our industry stops supporting leftist causes that seek to end the use of fossil fuels.

Montage Resources to Operate Just 1 Rig in 2020

    November 15, 2019November 15, 2019

Montage Resources, which formed in a merger of Eclipse Resources and Blue Ridge Mountain Resources (formerly Magnum Hunter Resources) in March of this year, announced in July they would cut back from two to one active drilling rig in the second half of 2019 (see Montage Resources Cuts Drilling Program to 1 Rig in 2nd Half 2019). They did. Last week the company, which is totally focused on the Marcellus/Utica region, issued its third quarter update and announced they will continue to operate just one rig in 2020.
