Sec. of Interior Calls “Keep it in the Ground” Protesters “NaĂŻve”

    Sally Jewell
    Sally Jewell

Sally Jewell, Obama’s Secretary for the Dept. of the Interior, has not endeared herself with anti-drilling zealots who inhabit (infest?) her own Democrat Party. Last week Jewell told a reporter that the “keep it [i.e. fossil fuels] in the ground” movement is “naĂŻve” and there is NO WAY we will transition to 100% renewables any time soon. Oooo, harsh words! From an Obamadroid! One of the key issues, according to Jewell, is transportation. She said we don’t yet have solar-powered automobiles. And before someone embarrasses themselves to ask “What about electric cars?”…we’ll remind you that more than 70% of all electricity produced in the U.S. comes from burning fossil fuels. The electric in the battery of an electric car got there by burning coal and/or natural gas. If we “leave it in the ground” it won’t be long before you’re walking or riding horseback to get from point A to point B. You’d also have to give up television, radio and a host of other things powered by electricity. Unless you want to watch and listen when the sun is out. Here’s some tough words from Sec. Jewell for the crazies in her own party…

Low Emissions Goals “Out of Reach” Without Shale & Nuclear Energy

Bernie SandersCrazy Bernie Sanders believes that we can just stop fracking for oil and gas, and turn off our nuclear plants, and sing Kumbaya to each other and usher in the nirvana age of Bernie renewable energy. What a dope. The people who support him are bigger dopes (sorry if you’re a Bernie supporter–but you need to wise up, quick). Below is a column that points out that shale gas and nuclear are the PROVEN path to a lower carbon emissions future–not reverting back to the stone ages with everyone parking their cars and turning down the thermostat. Carbon emissions in the U.S. have gone down faster than anywhere else in the world–BEFORE Obama’s idiotic Clean Power Plan and BEFORE any of the draconian measures cooked up by the out-of-control federal Environmental Protection Agency. Why? Because of the dramatic increase in the use of shale gas to power energy plants. And because nuclear powers energy plants. Here’s the story Crazy Bernie doesn’t want you think about (thinking not a requirement to be a Bernie supporter)…

Corrupt NY Gov. Cuomo Pushes Fields of Ugly Solar Panels in Upstate

New York’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo, is as corrupt a politician as they come. He single handedly stopped the safest, cleanest form of energy from taking root in upstate New York–shale gas extraction. In shale gas extraction, once the drilling is done and pipelines are installed–you don’t notice anything. There is no lasting effect. The grass and trees grow back. The “wound” in the ground is healed. There’s a small wellhead that sticks a up a few feet from the ground that can’t be seen from 200 feet away and that’s about it. Instead of allowing minimally invasive shale drilling, Cuomo is now pushing upstate farmers to agree to installing 30+ acre fields with solar panels that blemish the landscape for 30 years or more and kills birds stupid enough to fly directly over it. Cuomo pretends so-called “renewable” energy–like solar–has no side affects. FALSE. Solar has its negatives, just like every form of energy. One of solar’s negatives is that it destroys the landscape on which it sits–making it unusable for anything else and an eyesore that can be seen for miles. Solar is the opposite of shale energy, which allows farmers to plant fields and use their land–even over top of buried pipelines. Farmers can’t use their fields with solar panels sitting on them. This is how corruption works in New York State…

Wind Turbines Killing Bats by the Millions – Shut Them All Down?

We’ve said this many times before: Every single energy source has its positives and its negatives. Even so-called renewable energy sources are not perfect. Take wind energy, for example. Today we ran a story from the EIA that points out the #1 source of new electric generating capacity in the U.S. in 2015 was from wind (see Which Energy Source Added the Most Electric Generation in 2015?). Cool. We like wind. We like solar. We like natural gas. We say, let the free market determine the best energy source–not some sniveling climate changer who thinks he or she knows best which energy source you should use. We find it kind of humorous that fossil fuel haters who promote renewables like wind as the perfect solution tend to gloss over some huge negatives. For example, Dominion recently changed the route of a natural gas pipeline in order to avoid killing a threatened species of salamanders (see Dominion Files Pipeline Route Change to Avoid Salamanders, Swamp). The change was demanded by Big Green proponents. Yet windmills each year are killing millions of bats–some of them endangered species–and we don’t hear a PEEP from Big Greeners. Why is that? Are they now in the business of picking favorite mammals? They like salamanders but hate bats? Are they bat bigots? Here’s the story of how giant windmills are killing literally millions of bats around the world–and some of the bat species being killed are threatened…

It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Climate Change World

mad worldWe think it’s hard to overstate the power play being made by those who assembled in Paris earlier this month for the United Nations COP21 Climate Change Conference. As we previously wrote two days ago, Obama will never get Congress to ratify a treaty based on the agreement he signed in Paris (see Paris Climate Treaty Signed by Obama NOT Binding on U.S.). However, like all good fascists, obeying our nation’s laws and Constitution won’t slow BHO down. He’ll figure out how to wave his magic Executive Orders wand and just “make it so.” That’s his plan. You may think we’ve gone mad, but we must point out, yet again, that IF the plan coming out of the Paris conference is actually implemented, it means the end of the fossil fuel industry. Period. We are NOT exaggerating this. That is their stated purpose–to end the world’s reliance on fossil energy. That’s how this agreement is being reported in mainstream media–have you bothered to read the reports? What’s even more insane is that yesterday we received a press release from the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP)–supposedly “the voice of the global upstream industry”–saying the IOGP “welcomes the historic COP21 agreement in Paris last week.” What? They “welcome” the end of fossil energy? Has everyone gone stark….raving….mad?….

Bernie Sanders Energy Plan: Ban Fossil Fuels, Turn Thermostat Down

We always smile when we hear the name “Bernie Sanders.” He’s a hapless old idiot. A commie. Someone totally out of his league in running for president. But you know, he has a certain appeal–interestingly enough, with young people. The young people who like Sanders were no doubt mis-educated–not taught of the wonders and superiority of capitalism and freedom over communism/socialism/tyranny. But whatever. Bernie has a large following, which makes it somewhat scary when he announces an energy plan that includes banning all fossil fuels. Ole Bernie thinks we can stick up a windmill about every 150 feet, and solar panels on every home’s roof, and that’ll do it. We’ll be able to “save Mom Earth” by ending our “dependency” on evil, nasty fossil fuels. What dopes–Bernie AND his supporters…

Hydropower Not “Green Enough” for Wacko Environmentalists

Apparently wacko environmentalists don’t oppose just fossil fuels (including natural gas) because fossil fuels will “suppress” the growth of so-called renewables. Sometimes wacko environmentalists oppose their own precious renewable sources of energy. Self-loathing? Perhaps. Get this: Some enviros in New England are opposing hydropower that comes from Canada into New England because it comes via high-power transmission lines that don’t look pretty, and because (yes) it may mean other “favored” forms of so-called renewables, like ugly wind farms and unreliable solar, won’t develop as quickly. Hydro will stunt their growth. It’s silly and it’s sad–kind of like parents who favor one child over another. We bring you the story below for two reasons: (1) To point out the irrational, unreasoning and childish behavior of these so-called green supporters, and (2) to illustrate the folly of choosing which forms of energy people should/should not have the right to use. These wacko environmentalists think they’re smarter than you and know which forms of energy you should allow in your life…

81 Big Companies Sell Out U.S., Support Obama’s Climate Madness

climate change insanityIn December President Obama will travel to Paris to sign a climate treaty that forfeits the sovereignty of the United States of America–the country he swore to protect. The Paris climate treaty is another in a long line of attempts (like Kyoto) to convince stupid Americans to give up the right to control their own country and destiny–to sell ourselves out and let non-American, un-elected socialists from other countries determine how we will live in the future. They use the bogeyman myth of global warming to do it. They are all aiming to commit mass energy suicide by outlawing fossil fuels–but it won’t work if we don’t play along. We pray Congress stops this madness, but now we despair. You see, big business is in bed with big government and funds the political ruling class in Washington and in return the politicians pass laws favorable to them. Some 81 of the biggest big businesses (who contribute heavily to Congress and receive preferential treatment in return) have signed on to a pact to support Obama’s climate madness. They actually want him to sign the treaty that gives up our national sovereignty. Without these 81 big businesses (full list below) you literally could not live–from Walmart to Hershey to Nike to Apple to Google to Kellogg’s to American Express…the list goes on. Sadly, even some in our own industry have signed on, including Invenergy. Shame on them. If we were to boycott them (as should happen) we’d have to live like hermits in the wilderness. No one can live without the goods and services provided by this list of 81 mega corporations. And each and every one of them have sold us out. It’s truly a sad and depressing day…

New England’s Obdurate (and Foolish) Opposition to Pipelines

Yet another example (not that you need it) that most folks who oppose pipelines, and shale drilling, and anything to do with shale energy–do so because they irrationally hate fossil fuels. This latest example comes from the land of liberal lunacy–Massachusetts. Leigh Youngblood, director of the Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, community organized a protest rally preceding a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) scoping session on Wednesday in Greenfield, MA. The FERC scoping session was to hear about potential environmental impacts from the proposed Tennessee Gas Pipeline interstate project known as Northeast Energy Direct, or NED. Youngblood, true to lib Dem form, believes that Massachusetts should dump dirty fossil fuels and instead concentrate their “superior” intellects on using so-called alternative energy sources. Renewable energy is the future, dontchya know…

Fossil Fuels Will Continue to Rule for Next 50-100 Years

Let’s disabuse ourselves of the fantasy that so-called renewable energy sources will, in our lifetimes, provide most of our energy needs. Ain’t gonna happen. And not because “we don’t have the political will” or “big oil is stopping it” or any of those malarkey utterings from so-called environmentalists who behave and think on a kindergarten level. Fact: Right now, today, if you lump together wind, solar, geothermal and biomass into the “renewable energy” category, all of them together provide an astounding, astonishing, hugeoriffic…5% of our energy needs in this country. Evil, nasty fossil fuels? They provide 80%+ of our energy needs–and it’s been that way for more than 100 years. So says the U.S. Energy Information Administration, a division of the Dept. of Energy, which belongs to the executive branch, which belongs to Barack Hussein Obama…

Hunger Games: G7 Seeks to End all Fossil Fuel Use This Century

The Hunger GamesThere is no escaping the fact that when a group of hardened socialists get together, bad things happen. Witness the meeting called the G7 that took place in Germany yesterday. The assembled “leaders” of seven of the world’s biggest economies, including Barack H. Obama, agreed to commit their respect countries to committing economic suicide–i.e., ending the use of fossil fuels by the end of this century. By the middle of this century (35 years from now), they aim to reduce burning fossil fuels by “40 to 70 percent in the 2010 global emission levels of the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.” What happens when, by 2050, everyone figures out that mankind burning fossil fuels actually doesn’t cause so-called global warming? The threat of global warming is yet another sham, another way to convince people to willingly give up their freedom so so-called smart people will “save them” from themselves. It’s sick…

Happy Day After Earth Day – A Day to Celebrate Fossil Fuels

earth dayEarth Day was celebrated in 192 countries around the world yesterday, including the U.S. We celebrate old Mother Earth here at MDN HQ each and every day. We love this dirt ball on which we live. An MDN reader and friend sent us a link to a Youtube video that properly celebrates and provides context for Earth Day (watch it below). To properly celebrate Earth Day, you need to include a celebration of fossil fuels–which have done more to clean up the earth than any other factor. Yes, you read that right. Fossil fuels are the reason we have cleaner air, cleaner water and live longer than ever. So today, one day late, we celebrate “setting fire to corpses of animals and plants unearthed from 400 million-year-old cemeteries”–which is how anti-driller Sandra Steingraber describes fossil fuels…

Going Amish? NY Nutters Push to Dump All Fossil Fuel Use by 2030

Have you noticed how anti-drilling nutters have become even more shrill lately? They never were “reasonable” people–able to be reasoned with. But lately…wow. How about this example: A fringe collection of 70 “groups” (each “group” is a single person or perhaps half a dozen people a most) that you’ve mostly never heard of are supporting an initiative in New York called 100% Renewable Energy by 2030. They are true global warming believers–and God help you if you try and talk any sense to them on that topic. This group of 70 is attempting to build on the success of pressuring the spineless Andrew Cuomo in banning fracking by banning the use of fossil fuels by 2030. Yes, they’re totally nuts–we know that. Yes, they ignore facts like the materials used to make their precious windmills and solar panels are highly toxic and put the health of workers in places like China in constant danger. They never let facts get in the way of a good fantasy. And so now they peddle this concept that “if we only had the political will, we could be using 100% so-called renewable energy” in 15 short years. We call it psychotic…

Virginia’s Largest Electric Plant to be Powered by Marcellus Gas

spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go downYesterday Dominion, a huge natural gas and electric utility as well as a midstream company, announced plans to build the State of Virginia’s largest natural gas powered electric generating plant–in Greensville County, VA. (By the way, Dominion won the Award for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility at the Northeast Oil & Gas Awards on Wednesday in Pittsburgh. Well done!) The $1 billion project will produce 1,600 megawatts of electricity using combined-cycle technology–enough electricity to power 400,000 homes. Dominion will use Marcellus Shale gas to power the plant, provided by Williams’ Transco pipeline. The plant will also be fed by a second Marcellus Shale pipeline–Dominion’s own Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a $5 billion, 550-mile pipeline slated to run from West Virginia through Virginia and into to North Carolina (see Dominion Commits to Major New Marcellus/Utica Pipeline Project). Between just these two projects, the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and the Greensville County electric plant, Dominion is pumping an astounding $6 billion into the economy of the Mid-Atlantic region, made possible by the miracle of fracking and the amazing Marcellus Shale. In addition to building the natgas-powered electric plant, Dominion also plans to build a large-scale solar project at the Greensville County site, which will make so-called environmentalists happy. Perhaps a spoonful of solar sugar will help the natgas medicine go down–in a most delightful way…

Grimm’s Fairy Tale: Big Tobacco + Big Oil Give Birth to….Solar?

Grimm's Fairy TalesHere’s one weird and twisted bedtime story: Once upon a time there was a filthy Big Tobacco company. Big Tobacco hooked up with a wealthy (and equally filthy) Big Oil company and they had a baby. And the baby was…….solar panels?? Yep. Philip Morris, one of the largest cigarette manufacturers in the world has contracted with Dominion, one of the biggest utility/midstream companies in the Marcellus/Utica region, to install 8,000 solar panels at the Philip Morris facility in Chesterfield County, VA so they can make more cigs. It will be the largest solar installation to date in the state of Virginia. The only problem here is that the “bad guys” (Big Tobacco and Big Oil) are the heroes by installing solar instead of using natural gas. This is a real dilemma for the anti-drilling/anti-pipeline gang in the Old Dominion State. It may cause a brain hemorrhage…

Real Reason for EPA Methane Rules: Prop Up Expensive Renewables

One of the keynote speakers at last year’s Shale Insight conference, held in Pittsburgh, was the dynamite Stephen Moore. Steve is the chief economist at the Heritage Foundation–the country’s premier conservative think tank, headquartered in Washington, DC. He’s also a Fox News contributor. Steve not only gave a dynamite speech on the role of shale drilling at Shale Insight, he also came along for the riverboat cruise MDN helped organize. It was great fun to talk with Steve and a number of other industry luminaries who came along for the cruise. Steve is back with a killer editorial in the Washington Times that skewers the latest attempt by the Obama EPA to throttle shale drilling by using the “boogeyman” of fugitive methane. As he points out, Steve says cows farting (our word) contributes more methane to the atmosphere than leakage from oil and gas drilling operations. Be careful farmers–the EPA is coming with corks for the cows next!…
