When you see the words “environmental justice,” that’s just another way of saying racist–or the new shorthand “woke.” Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) carbon tax scheme assumes all fossil fuel-powered electric generating plants in the state are built in communities of color or in communities that are economically poor and therefore those communities can’t fight back against the injustice of being “polluted.” RGGI presumes fossil power plants are racist and sets out to correct the injustice by eliminating those power plants via taxing them out of existence.

A lawsuit against the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) and their illegal ban on hydraulic fracturing filed by a group of Republican Senators from Pennsylvania continues to heat up in federal court. Two more counties (Philadelphia suburbs) have filed to “intervene” against the lawsuit (they like the ban). There’s talk of another county joining the lawsuit on the supportive side. Anti-fossil fuelers are spitting and sputtering because if this lawsuit moves forward and prevails, the DRBC will either be bankrupted or forced to rescind its ban on fracking.

It should come as no surprise that a group of far-left “environmentalists” who belong to New York State’s Power Generation Advisory Panel is recommending to Lord Cuomo that the state simply ban and block any and all new natural gas-fired power generating plants from being built in the state. Why? Because they have a mental condition that causes them to irrationally hate fossil fuels, including natural gas. That’s the only explanation that makes sense. Yet another ginned-up, faux controversy. Another fake news story emanating from the left (PBS in this case) about muddy water coming from a construction site near Philadelphia where the final pieces of the Mariner East 2 pipeline are getting installed. Without being able to point to a single dead fish, neighbors “fed up with the noise from Sunoco’s trucks and construction operations” are pointing to “murky brown water” and claiming “trout have a hard time surviving in muddy water.” Yet the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) says flat out there are no violations happening at the site.

Nearly two weeks ago MDN reported that the final two “tree sitters” (a man and a woman) who were illegally blocking the path of Mountain Valley Pipeline by living for months/years at the top of several trees, were finally removed from the trees where they were living by law enforcement (see Final Two MVP Tree Sitters Arrested, One in Jail Until Trial). The judge in the case ordered the woman (from Vermont) to sit her butt in jail until her trial because she’s a flight risk and may scarper back up a tree somewhere. The judge has just ordered the same sentence for the man (from Massachusetts). He’s a flight risk too and has demonstrated a total disregard for the law, so he now gets to sit his butt in jail until the trial as well.

The latest salvo is by NY State Sen. Jessica Ramos (Democrat, East Elmhurst) who has proposed the Clean Futures Act (S.5939) which would not only ban the permitting and building of new natural gas-fired power plants throughout the state, it would also ban “the permitting of all new major facilities that burn fossil fuels, not just those that sell power to the energy grid.” In other words, any large office building, factory, etc. that gets built would not be able to heat with natural gas or fuel oil. New York is already closed for business, can you imagine the wholesale flight from the state should this Communist law get passed?

Joe Biden visited Pittsburgh yesterday to make a major policy announcement. Fortunately, he was lucid enough to actually know which city he was in! Biden unveiled a $2 trillion “American Jobs Plan” which raises corporate and individual tax income rates. It is half of his total package (another plan with another $2 trillion is coming in a few weeks). The Jobs Plan is supposed to be a plan to rebuild roads and bridges and other infrastructure. The Jobs Plan is misnamed. Much of the money has nothing to do with infrastructure and jobs. Instead, it’s the Green New Deal under another name, targeting the elimination of fossil energy in the name of saving the planet.

Joe Biden is proposing an insane “infrastructure” plan that will run into the trillions of dollars. All of that money comes from somewhere folks. Tom Wolf continues his efforts to force his state, without approval by its citizens (via the legislature) to join the so-called Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a glorified carbon tax on coal- and gas-fired power plants. What Wolf and his lackey Pat McDonnell at the Dept. of Environmental Protection refuse to tell PA citizens is just how high the RGGI carbon tax has climbed. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports the most recent RGGI quarterly auction, held on March 3, 2021, resulted in the highest price (tax) per ton of CO2 yet.
