What EQT Purchase of Chevron’s M-U Assets Means, IF it Happens

    October 12, 2020October 12, 2020

Nearly a month ago sources talking to Reuters let it slip that EQT has offered $750 million for Chevron’s $6.5 billion worth of Marcellus/Utica assets (see Sources: EQT Offering $750M for Chevron’s Marcellus/Utica Assets). Since that time we’ve not heard a peep about negotiations and whether or not Chevron is seriously considering the offer. Let’s do a little speculating. What if Chevron does accept that offer? What does it mean for investors and others with a stake in the outcome?

Western Democracies Committing Suicide by Abandoning Fossil Fuels

    October 12, 2020October 12, 2020

The ongoing, persistent meme that fossil fuels are evil and causing the destruction of the earth and threaten all life on earth is so pervasive in mainstream media that it has become a religion, an article of faith. If you dare challenge the meme by using science or rational thought, you are immediately branded a heretic, a kook, a “denier”–someone to be avoided at all costs. But what if the meme is wrong? What is fossil fuels are not the great evil they are portrayed as?

A Personal Message from MDN Editor Jim Willis About COVID-19

    October 11, 2020October 11, 2020

    Dear MDN Reader,

I’m writing to let you know that I (Jim Willis, editor) received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis this weekend after being tested on Friday, Oct. 9. My wife also tested positive. The county where we live, Broome County, NY, has experienced a dramatic spike in new cases over the past week.

My intent is to continue with my daily Monday through Friday publishing of Marcellus Drilling News. It will help to keep my mind off this disease to get up and “go to work” each day. Fortunately, I work from a home office.

So far our symptoms are mild, but the pathology is, according to our doctor, that symptoms sometimes worsen beginning in the second week. My first symptoms began last Tuesday. If symptoms become severe enough, I may not publish for a period of days. This note is so you know why–in case there are no new stories. I ask for your understanding and patience. And if you are a praying person, may I also humbly ask you to pray for my wife and me?

Your faithful partner in shale energy,
    Jim Willis

    October 9, 2020October 9, 2020

After a couple of weeks of double-digit gains in the Enverus national rig count, last week the count slipped backward by 3 (for the week ending Oct. 7). The Marcellus lost two rigs last week. The Haynesville, a gassy shale play in Lousiana and competitor to the Marcellus/Utica, picked up 2 rigs.

    October 8, 2020October 8, 2020

Here’s a new one for us: The Leach XPress pipeline project has a teeny tiny presence in the southwestern corner of Pennsylvania. We did not know that! Just 1.74 miles of the pipeline runs through PA, but that small section has earned the builder, Columbia Gas, a big fine.

    October 8, 2020October 8, 2020

Based on the suspect testimony of a “whistleblower,” the radical Clean Air Council (CAC) has filed a notice of its intent to sue Sunoco Pipeline claiming the company prevented professional geologists working on the project from properly inspecting and investigating environmental conditions, including subsidence, near the pipelines. Yet another sham lawsuit by a sham organization.

Know-Nothing Anti Tries to Scare NEPA Town into Banning LNG Trucks

    October 8, 2020October 8, 2020

It might help anti-fossil fuel radicals if they at least got a few of their facts right. Facts are typically missing from their hysterical proclamations. Case in point: An anti addressed the Ransom Township board earlier this week (Scranton, PA suburb) to try and convince the board to pass a resolution against trucks hauling LNG from traveling through the community on the way to Interstate 81. Her wild claims were false.
