New Way to Store and Use Methane at Moderate Temps & Pressures

    October 21, 2020October 21, 2020

Methane (CH4) is one of the most abundant, naturally-occurring organic compounds on Planet Earth. And yet loony leftists claim it’s a pollutant and killing the planet. Go figure. We’ve always been fans of using methane as a fuel substitute for gasoline. But let’s face it, storing it in high-pressure tanks (CNG) or liquefying it and storing it at minus 260 degrees (LNG), is not an ideal way to use it in moving vehicles. It’s not handy or easy and takes special tanks. Researchers may just have found a solution for that problem.

Guest Post: Biased vs Unbiased Polls in Fracking and Politics

    October 21, 2020October 21, 2020

New polls arrive each day now to proclaim that Donald Trump is toast and sleepy/creepy Uncle Joe Biden is going to win big. New polls arrive just about every week to announce that Americans are suspicious of shale fracking and would, in a heartbeat, dump fossil fuels. Don’t believe either the political or fracking polls so-called mainstream media releases. Why? Because the polls themselves are constructed not to determine public opinion, but to shape it. Almost all polls today are push-polls.

Gulfport Energy Misses Debt Payment, in “Restructuring” Talks

    October 20, 2020October 20, 2020
Gulfport stock last 6 months (click for larger version)

According to paperwork filed by Gulfport Energy last Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company skipped making a scheduled interest payment on its 6% senior unsecured notes due 2024. Which means the clock starts ticking (for 30 days) in which the company either must make that payment, or get an agreement in place with creditors (or file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy).

NJ LNG Export Terminal Pits Green Politics vs. Established Law

    October 20, 2020October 20, 2020

There is a battle underway by Big Green groups in Pennsylvania to unduly influence, pressure, and bully a quasi-governmental agency, the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), into overturning a legally permitted LNG export facility planned for the New Jersey shore of the Delaware River by New Fortress Energy (NFE).

Range Resources Goes Virtual with Rig Tours

    October 20, 2020October 20, 2020

Range Resources is the company that started it all in the Marcellus by drilling the very first Marcellus Shale gas well back in 2004. Range also was the first to drill in the Upper Devonian and Utica layers. Over the years Range, like many other M-U drillers, has invited folks to go on tours of their drilling sites. If you’ve never been on a rig tour, take one! At least, when they begin again. Due to the coronavirus, Range, like other drillers, stopped in-person rig tours. However, Range now conducts virtual (live) rig tours instead.

More Shipping Channel Troubles for Gulf Coast LNG Exports

    October 20, 2020October 20, 2020

Last week MDN told you about a barge sinking in a shipping channel in Lousiana that had contributed to a big drop in the price of natural gas (see Sunken Barge in LA Helps Fuel $0.22 One-Day Drop in NatGas Price). That barge is still stuck on the bottom, blocking traffic to the Cameron LNG facility. In addition to trouble for Cameron in the Calcasieu Ship Channel, a semi-submersible rig ran aground in the Sabine Bank Channel, blocking LNG traffic to and from Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG terminal.

Biden Plan Kills Fracking Without an Actual Frack Ban – Same Result

    October 20, 2020October 20, 2020

The transition from energy freedom to energy Fascism (the forced abandonment of fossil fuels) is happening far faster than anyone thought possible. Never in our lifetime did we believe Americans would willingly choose Communism and Fascism over American freedom, yet that’s what is happening and will be accelerated under a Joe Biden administration (perish the thought).

4th Circuit Clown Judges Once Again Stop MVP Construction

    October 19, 2020October 19, 2020

Enough! How many times do we have to put up with Obama/Clinton liberal Democrat judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit blocking the legal and legitimate construction of Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP)–a project which is 92% in the ground and done! Last Friday the clowns did it again for the umpteenth time–slapping a “temporary” order blocking construction because the anti-America, Russia-backed Sierra Club filed yet another frivolous lawsuit against the project.

Marcellus/Utica Needs More Pipelines – MVP Not Enough

    October 19, 2020October 19, 2020

Even if and when Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) gets completed and goes online, flowing Marcellus/Utica gas to the southern U.S., it still will not be enough to significantly lift the price of natgas for M-U drillers. That’s according to an analysis by the experts at S&P Global Platts.

Renovo Energy Center Roars Back to Life, Upsized to 1,240 MW

    October 19, 2020October 19, 2020

Sometimes plans change, for the better! That’s what has happened with a Marcellus-fired power plant planned for Clinton County, PA called the Renovo Energy Center. The last time we wrote about Renovo was in February 2018 (see Marcellus-Fired Electric Plant in Clinton County, PA Gets DEP Approval). Happily, the project is active once again–and it has been upsized.

Diversified Gas & Oil Employs 425, Spends $100M per Year in WV

    October 19, 2020October 19, 2020
Rusty Hutson, Jr. – DGO CEO

Diversified Gas & Oil (DGO) is a fascinating company (see our DGO stories here). DGO’s strategy is to seek wells in “the long tail.” That is, wells already drilled with production along the decline curve. DGO CEO Rusty Hutson, a West Virginia native, recently wrote a column for the Charleston Gazette-Mail expressing his company’s love for and investment in the Mountain State. DGO’s commitment to WV is extensive.

PA Shale Permits Down 47% in Sept. ’20 Over Sept. ’19

    October 19, 2020October 19, 2020

A month ago the analysts at S&P Global Market Intelligence reviewed permits issued for shale drilling in Pennsylvania and found there were 24% fewer permits issued in August 2020 than in August 2019 (see PA Shale Drilling Permits Down 24% in August, but EQT Roars Back). The analysts are back with an analysis of permits issued in PA for September year over year. The trend is worse.

Harvard Study Finds No Threat of Radioactivity from Fracking

    October 19, 2020October 19, 2020

A newly published paper by researchers with Harvard University tried its best to make a connection between fracking and high levels of radiation–and failed. You won’t know that by reading biased media accounts of the study nor by reading comments from so-called experts reporting on the findings. But when you read the study itself (below), the inescapable conclusion is that Harvard researchers didn’t prove a darned thing, other than there’s no real threat to human (or animal) health from air emissions coming from fracked oil and gas wells.
