Buffalo Bills Owner Terry Pegula on the Hunt to Buy NatGas Assets

    July 23, 2020July 23, 2020

Terry Pegula is a billionaire who owns both the Buffalo Sabres (NHL hockey team) and the Buffalo Bills (NFL football team). Pegula is the owner of East Resources, once a big driller (and holder of acreage) in the Marcellus Shale. Pegula sold off East’s Marcellus assets and used the money, in part, to buy the Buffalo Bills in 2014, which gave rise to MDN calling the team “the Marcellus Bills”–since it was Marcellus money that kept the team in Buffalo, instead of moving to another market (see Buffalo Bills Stay in Buffalo, Thanks to $1.4B of Marcellus Money). Yes, “dirty” fracking money saved the Bills! Pegula is once again in the hunt to purchase oil and gas assets. Hey, it’s a buyer’s market right now and Pegula didn’t become a billionaire by being dumb…

Another Outrage: PA AG Charges NFG with Crimes for Pipe Accident

    July 23, 2020July 30, 2020

This absolutely must stop. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro is completely out of control and abusing his power as AG. He has charged a third Marcellus/Utica company, National Fuel Gas Company, with crimes because of a few minor cases of erosion runoff during the installation of a pipeline in Washington County, PA. Since when is erosion a CRIME?

Effort to Repeal Ohio $1B Nuke Bailout Law Shifts into High Gear

    July 23, 2020July 23, 2020

“Be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23). That phrase needs to be tattooed on the side of FirstEnergy’s headquarters because their sin of (allegedly) bribing Ohio lawmakers to pass a highly unpopular bailout of the company’s economically failing nuclear power plants has certainly found them out (see FirstEnergy Involved in Bribery Scheme to Pass $1B Nuke Bailout Law). Lawmakers in the Ohio legislature are now falling all over themselves in an effort to repeal House Bill (HB) 6, a law THEY PASSED just twelve months ago (see Ohio Nuke Bailout Law Means Fewer Natgas-Fired Electric Plant).

PTT Signs Contract with Mountaineer NGL Storage Hub for OH Cracker

    July 23, 2020July 23, 2020

Just yesterday MDN told you about one expert’s view that there won’t be one massive NGL storage hub built in the Marcellus/Utica, but a number of smaller hubs (see Expert Says Massive Appalachian NGL Storage Hub Won’t Get Built). One of the smaller hubs we highlighted is the Mountaineer NGL Storage project. Lo and behold…yesterday PTT Global Chemical, the Thailand-based petrochemical giant seeking to build a giant ethane cracker plant in Belmont County, OH, signed a contract with Mountaineer to use their NGL storage services when/if the mighty cracker gets built.

Montage Sells Non-Core Utica Pipe Assets to Int’l Buyer for $25M

    July 23, 2020July 23, 2020

Montage Resources, the new name for the merger of Eclipse Resources with Blue Ridge Mountain Resources which happened more than a year ago, announced yesterday it is selling its “non-core” wellhead gathering infrastructure (pipelines) in the Ohio Utica condensate development area to an unnamed international buyer for $25 million. The transaction is expected to close by the end of this year.

NY Officially Closed for Business – New Law Bans PA Drill Cuttings

    July 23, 2020July 23, 2020

Each day New York State becomes more like a third world, tinhorn dictatorship. High and Supreme Lord Andrew Cuomo (governor and dictator of NY) has issued edicts to *permanently* ban all fracking in the state. The suckup legislature dutifully obliged (see Cuomo PERMANENTLY Bans NY Fracking in Now-Adopted Budget). Lord Cuomo has also banned all new “fossil fuel” pipeline construction in the state. There has been one very minor way NY still participated in the shale revolution…

FirstEnergy Involved in Bribery Scheme to Pass $1B Nuke Bailout Law

    July 22, 2020July 23, 2020

We told you that the law passed in Ohio (House Bill 6) granting FirstEnergy (now called Energy Harbor) $1 billion in corporate welfare from ratepayers, destroying the fair playing field for natgas-fired electric plants in the bargain, stunk to high heaven. We told you that the entire thing was corrupt (see OH Nuclear Bailout Corruption: Gas Sacrificed for Nuke Investors). We didn’t realize just how right we were! Yesterday the Republican Speaker of the Ohio House, Larry Householder (along with several associates) was arrested on racketeering charges for taking $60 million in bribes from FirstEnergy for promoting and pushing (against the will of the people, we might add), HB 6. FirstEnergy has been served with a subpoena related to the case, although they have not (yet) been indicted. This is the largest bribery scheme in Ohio’s history!

Fracker BJ Services Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

    July 22, 2020July 22, 2020

BJ Services, a pressure pumping (i.e. fracking) company, began life in the 1870s. BJ was purchased by, and merged into, Baker Hughes in 2009 for $5.5 billion. In November 2016, Baker Hughes along with financial partners Goldman Sachs and CSL Capital Management combined forces (and money) to turn the Baker Hughes BJ division back into a standalone company (see Baker Hughes, CSL & GS Form New US Fracking Co: BJ Services). On Monday the reconstituted BJ Services filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced they are in talks to sell off most of their assets.

PA AG Colludes with Big Green to Double Down re Anti-Fracking

    July 22, 2020July 22, 2020

Pennsylvania’s hard-left Attorney General, Josh Shapiro, is doubling down on the fraudulent so-called grand jury report that bashes the state’s Marcellus Shale industry. Yesterday afternoon Shapiro spoke on a webinar sponsored by leftist fringe group PennEnvironment. Shapiro once again lied about fracking chemical transparency and threatened he will indict more shale companies. Shapiro is off the reservation and out of control.

Anti-Fossil Fuelers Rebrand Themselves “ReImagine Appalachia”

    July 22, 2020July 22, 2020

A number of far-left anti-fossil fuel (nutty) organizations aren’t getting any traction. Nobody listens to them. So they’ve banded together to form a new umbrella organization called ReImagine Appalachia. In other words, they’ve put lipstick on an anti-fossil fuel pig, hoping they can now, finally, get someone to pay attention to them. Ain’t gonna happen.

Weekly Shale Drilling Permits Issued for PA, OH, WV: July 13-17

    July 22, 2020July 22, 2020

There were 27 (!) new permits issued in Pennsylvania for shale drilling July 13-17. There were, once again, no new permits issued in Ohio. What’s up in Ohio? Is nobody filing new permit requests? Or does the ODNR have a backlog of unprocessed requests? There were 7 new permits issued in West Virginia for shale drilling last week. In PA, new permits were issued in Armstrong, Bradford, Greene, Lycoming, Susquehanna, and Westmoreland Counties. In WV all 7 permits were issued for the same well pad in Wetzel County.

Dominion Compressor Leak in PA Contaminates Local Water Supply

    July 21, 2020July 21, 2020
    Potter County, PA

The Public Herald, an “independent” news organization, is reporting a leak of ethylene glycol (antifreeze) used as a coolant in Dominion Energy’s Stateline Compressor Station in Genesee (Potter County), PA has contaminated the water supplies for several nearby neighbors. The leak led to a small fish kill in a nearby pond. Dominion is aggressively investigating the situation, along with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP).

TC Energy Asks FERC for More Time to Build Potomac Pipeline

    July 21, 2020July 21, 2020

TC Energy’s Columbia Gas Transmission subsidiary has not given up on building a 3.37-mile, 8-inch pipeline under the Potomac River. The pipeline, from Maryland on one side of the river to West Virginia on the other side, will be built to feed a larger pipeline project from Mountaineer Gas called the Eastern Panhandle Expansion. The crazy anti-fossil fuel loons who run Maryland are trying to block the project. Columbia is asking the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for more time to get it built because of Maryland’s interference.
