Recap of Shale Insight 2025 Event – Locate Data Centers Near NatGas

    September 25, 2025September 25, 2025

The annual Shale Insight 2025 event, held in Erie, PA, recently concluded (September 16-18). There were many top-notch speakers, including executives from Expand Energy, Southern Company Gas, EQT, Repsol, MPLX, PennEnergy Resources, and National Fuel Gas Company (Seneca Resources). The closing keynote was delivered by Doug Burgum, U.S. Interior Secretary and Chairman of the National Energy Dominance Council. He uttered what has to be one of the best lines at the event: “Generate the electricity where you’ve got available gas. Turn the electricity into intelligence, ship the intelligence out on a fiber cable.” Read More “Recap of Shale Insight 2025 Event – Locate Data Centers Near NatGas”

Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG Facility Makes FID to Build Phase 2

    September 24, 2025September 24, 2025

Not quite a month ago, EQT Corporation, the largest Marcellus/Utica-only natural gas producer (second largest natural gas producer in the country) signed a deal with Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Jefferson County, Texas, to buy (not sell) LNG from the plant to resell it to other countries (see EQT Announces Deal to *Buy* LNG from Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG). The deal was contingent upon Sempra making a final investment decision (FID) to proceed with building the project. Yesterday, Sempra made its decision and is moving forward. Governors Pile on Bashing PJM Grid, Including Va.’s Youngkin

    September 24, 2025September 24, 2025

We must confess that we’re disappointed in Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (Republican). After such a promising term as governor (term limited to a single, four-year term, ending this year), Youngkin joined a gang of Democrat governors, headed by the biggest bully of them all, Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro, in bashing PJM at a “bash PJM” event hosted by Shapiro in Philadelphia earlier this week. Youngkin and various Dem governors, including Maryland’s Wes Moore and New Jersey’s Phil Murphy, made threats against PJM via speeches delivered remotely (they couldn’t even be bothered to travel a few hours to Philly to be there in person). We say fine, take your marbles and go home. Leave PJM and see how that works out for you when your residents are sitting in the dark 50% of the time and you’ve ended your political careers overnight. NY Antis Launch Pledge to Vote Against Hochul if She OKs NESE Pipe

    September 24, 2025September 24, 2025

This story is funny. At least, we find it amusing. An extremely radical organization (essentially a Communist organization) calling itself New York Communities for Change (NYCC), launched a petition for signers to say that if New York Governor Kathy Hochul approves the plan to build the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline project, they pledge to vote against her in the upcoming primary in 2026. The petition “quickly garnered supporters” with over 1,000 signatures. There are 5.9 million registered Democrats in the state, so 0.00017 of the Dems (assuming only registered Dems signed), or seventeen hundred-thousandths of the Dem primary voting population, will vote against her. Which is ZERO percent. But that’s not even the funniest part of this story. The funniest part is that she’s already approved it! VG Wants an Extra 15 Months for Commissioning Plaquemines LNG

    September 24, 2025September 24, 2025

We’ll begin this post with this statement: We’re not surprised. At the end of last December, Venture Global’s Plaquemines LNG export facility officially shipped its first cargo to Germany. Unfortunately for Venture Global’s contracted customers, they will have to wait to receive their legally contracted shipments. Venture Global said that it would (as it did with the Calcasieu Pass facility) pretend the Plaquemines LNG is not “commercially ready” while shipping all sorts of LNG cargoes around the world. The practice allows the company to cream the market and make more money for the first couple of years (see Plaquemines LNG Coming Online, Will Hose Customers for 2 Years). We consider it a disgusting business practice. And now, VG wants *another* 15 months added to the calendar to continue this practice. Trump Speech to UN Nails It: “Green Scam” is Killing Europe

    September 24, 2025September 24, 2025

President Trump delivered a speech to the United Nations yesterday, and wow! It was a speech for the ages. The teleprompter was broken, but he delivered his speech “off the cuff” anyway! He told the assembled world leaders, and we quote: “Your countries are going to hell,” particularly Europe. Why? Primarily because they’re pursuing the climate hoax of green energy, what he calls a “green scam,” and because they refuse to block illegal invaders (euphemistically called “immigrants”) from moving in and sucking up the country’s public resources. He left it all at the podium, not holding back anything. Read More “Trump Speech to UN Nails It: “Green Scam” is Killing Europe”

NYMEX NatGas Prices Kept Sinking Yesterday, Down 8.2 Cents to $2.806

    September 23, 2025September 23, 2025

Yesterday, the NYMEX “front month” futures contract for natural gas declined once again, marking four consecutive days of losses. The NYMEX price fell 8.20 cents per million British thermal units (MMBtus) to $2.806 per MMBtus. Why the slide? The best thinking we could find says (a) the weather isn’t warm or cold enough to draw down stocks, and (b) we have more than enough extra gas sitting in inventory. Classic economics 101 states that a surplus of supply over demand results in falling prices. How much longer will the price continue to decline? Gas traders speculate that the short-term outlook is “bearish,” meaning the price will continue to decline. However, in the not-too-distant future, they predict a turnaround and higher prices. Tenaska Proposes 1,540 MW Gas-Fired Plant for Central Va.

    September 23, 2025September 23, 2025
    Fluvanna County, Virginia

Tenaska, a U.S. energy company specializing in power generation, natural gas, and energy marketing, plans to construct a new gas-fired power plant in Fluvanna County, Virginia, adjacent to an existing gas-fired plant that Tenaska has operated for over 20 years. The new plant, which will undoubtedly utilize Marcellus/Utica natural gas to power it, will have a capacity of 1,540 megawatts (MW), sufficient to power approximately 1.5 million homes, and is estimated to cost $2 billion to construct. Tenaska calls it the Expedition Generating Station project. Read More “Tenaska Proposes 1,540 MW Gas-Fired Plant for Central Va.”

Nick Deiuliis Retiring as CNX CEO, CFO Alan Shepard to Succeed

    September 23, 2025September 23, 2025
    Nick Deiuliis

This is big news. The visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CNX Resources, Nick Deiuliis, is retiring at the end of this year. CNX announced yesterday that Alan Shepard, currently serving as President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will assume the role of President and CEO effective January 1, 2026. Nick worked at CNX for 35 years. He will remain a member of the Board of Directors. It was our privilege and honor to have a (remote) sit-down interview with Nick in July 2022, which we shared in four different posts (read them here). He’s quite a guy. Very impressive. And someone who will be missed. However, if we know anything about Nick, we know that he’s trained his replacement well. Read More “Nick Deiuliis Retiring as CNX CEO, CFO Alan Shepard to Succeed”

Diversified Energy Testifies Before WV Senate re Storage Tank Law

    September 23, 2025September 23, 2025

In the closing hours of the 2014 West Virginia legislative session, the legislature passed Senate Bill (SB) 373, the Aboveground Storage Tank Act (see Fate of 3 WV Laws that Impact Marcellus/Utica Drilling). The bill, which was signed into law, was in response to a chemical leak that affected the drinking water for 300,000 West Virginia residents. Even though the leak was not related to oil and gas drilling (it was related to coal mining), the new rules governing aboveground storage tanks for chemicals affect several industries, including the Marcellus/Utica (see Impact of WV’s New Chemical Tank Law on Marcellus Drillers). Over the years, several attempts have been made to relax the over-restrictive new rules for the oil and gas industry. Another attempt was initiated in this year’s legislative session: Senate Bill (SB) 592 (see WV Senate Bill 592 Eases Oil & Gas Storage Tank Inspections). Unfortunately, the bill stalled in the WV House. Read More “Diversified Energy Testifies Before WV Senate re Storage Tank Law”

Gov. Shapiro Convenes Gang to Blame PJM Grid for His Policies

    September 23, 2025September 23, 2025

PJM Interconnection is the electrical grid operator serving Pennsylvania, as well as parts of 12 other states and the District of Columbia. For months, the Democrat governors of PJM states have been criticizing PJM, blaming the grid operator for higher electricity prices, even though their own policies are driving electricity prices higher (see Democrats Try to Demonize PJM Elec. Grid for THEIR Failed Policies). Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has been the worst of the worst, acting like a petulant child in a temper tantrum, threatening to leave PJM (see PA Gov. Shapiro Gets Uppity with PJM, Threatens to Leave the Grid). PJM eventually caved to Shapiro’s demand to artificially cap the price now, meaning higher prices and potential blackouts down the road (see PJM Grid Caves to PA Gov. Shapiro Bullying, Blackout Risk Rises). Shapiro kept up his gamesmanship yesterday by convening representatives from all 13 states and other “stakeholders” to bash away once again against PJM. U.S. House Passes GRID Act to Fast-Track New Power Plants

    September 23, 2025September 23, 2025

One of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s big beefs with the PJM grid is that it doesn’t allow new sources of electric generation to be added quickly enough (see Gov. Shapiro Convenes Group to Blame PJM Grid for His Policies). Nationally, a potential solution is on the way. Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressman Troy Balderson’s (OH-12) bill to expedite the construction of new power plants, thereby ensuring the long-term reliability of the American electric grid. H.R. 1047, the Guaranteeing Reliability through the Interconnection of Dispatchable (GRID) Power Act, makes a key improvement to the interconnection queue, where power generation projects wait in line before being reviewed by regulators. Time to cut the red tape for “dispatchable” power. Read More “U.S. House Passes GRID Act to Fast-Track New Power Plants”

THE Delaware Riverkeeper Praises Trump EPA for Water Quality Rule

    September 23, 2025September 23, 2025

Here’s a story that technically doesn’t have anything to do with shale energy. However, one of the characters in this story, THE Delaware Riverkeeper (that’s what Maya van Rossum calls herself), is a person who routinely attempts to block shale energy projects (and drilling). We think it’s fair to say Van Rossum, indeed, all card-carrying members of the far-left environmental movement hate Trump and anyone associated with Trump. So, when she praised (her word) a new final rule establishing federal water quality standards for 38 miles of the Delaware River between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware, created by the Trump EPA, well…that’s a “man bites dog” kind of story!
