Dominion’s NY Compressor Plants to Move More Marcellus Gas

In June MDN told you about the Dominion New Market Project–a project that will build two new compressor plants and upgrade one other compressor station in upstate New York to help flow more abundant, cheap and clean-burning Marcellus Shale gas from Pennsylvania (and beyond) into the northeast (see Dominion Asks FERC for New Compressors in Upstate NY, WV). It is projected to cost $159 million and provide 112,000 dekatherms per day (Dth/d) of extra natural gas capacity along ~200 miles of existing Dominion pipeline across upstate New York. Dominion Breaks Ground on Cove Point, MD LNG Export Facility

It was only Wednesday night of this week (Oct. 29) at the Oil & Gas Awards dinner in Oklahoma City, OK that a fellow attendee (from Eagle Rock) asked me at dinner when Dominion would break ground on the Cove Point LNG plant. NC Regulator Vote Means $5B Atlantic Coast Pipeline Moves Forward

An important milestone has been achieved on the way to building the $5 billion Atlantic Coast Pipeline–a project that will run from West Virginia through Virginia and into North Carolina (see Dominion Commits to Major New Marcellus/Utica Pipeline Project). Dominion Launches Public Offering for Midstream Subsidiary

Dominion Resources continues to dominate midstream news in the Marcellus/Utica. Recently the company announced that they, along with three other partners, want to build a $5 billion, 550-mile natural gas pipeline from West Virginia to North Carolina, dubbed the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (see Dominion Commits to Major New Marcellus/Utica Pipeline Project). Then the company received final approval to begin building a massive LNG export plant in Cove Point, Maryland (see Dominion Gets Final Fed Approval to Build Cove Point LNG Plant). Earlier this week, the company announced their midstream subsidiary, called Dominion Midstream Partners, is launching an initial public offering (IPO) to raise money for their projects. It was just a scant few months ago that Dominion first announced a new pipeline project to carry Marcellus and Utica Shale gas from West Virginia through Virginia and into North Carolina (see Dominion Announces 2 New Pipeline Projects from Marcellus/Utica). Eventually what was a single company building a $2 billion pipeline became four joint venture partners building a 550-mile, $5 billion pipeline with the name Atlantic Coast Pipeline (see Dominion Commits to Major New Marcellus/Utica Pipeline Project). Surveyors are in the field attempting to chart a path for the new pipeline, and some landowners are none too pleased at the prospect. Dominion Accepts FERC 79 Conditions for Cove Point < 24 Hrs

That didn’t take long. On Sept. 29 the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granted Dominion final approval to build an LNG export facility in Cove Point, MD (see Dominion Gets Final Fed Approval to Build Cove Point LNG Plant). Part of the approval includes a list of 79 “conditions” that must be met by Dominion in accepting FERC’s approval. Dominion said, on the 29th, that they would need to review FERC’s final order with the 79 conditions. It only took 24 hours. On Sept. 30 Dominion accepted all 79 conditions.
