Experts Say Forget About Hydrogen “Color” – Just Use & Develop It

    November 18, 2021November 18, 2021

Although the left so often preaches we should all be colorblind, they are the ones who are obsessed with a person’s, or in this case, a hydrogen molecule’s, color. So-called environmentalists are pushing hydrogen as the nirvana alternative to natural gas. Just one teeny-tiny problem: Some 95% of all hydrogen is produced by and comes from natural gas! Which has given rise to a rainbow of colors when talking about hydrogen. If the hydrogen (H2) is produced by cracking natural gas and capturing/storing the carbon dioxide that’s left over, it’s called “blue” hydrogen. Don’t store the CO2 when producing the H2? That’s called “gray” hydrogen. And there are other colors depending on the process to produce the H2, including “green” (made from so-called renewable energy sources), “brown” or “black” (H2 made from coal), “turquoise” (stores the CO2 in solid form), and now (yes), even “pink” hydrogen, made using nuclear energy. These dipwads with their color designations are too funny…

Natural Gas Bitcoin Mining Coming to Beaver County, PA

    November 17, 2021November 17, 2021

WT Data Mining and Science Corp. wants to set up a bitcoin mining operation at a compressed natural gas (CNG) facility owned by Geopetro in Darlington Township (Beaver County), PA. WT Data Mining proposes to build an electric generator at the CNG site and use natural gas to generate massive amounts of electricity required to power the company’s computers that mine bitcoin. Some of the neighbors are concerned about noise.

PA EQB Advances Antis’ Request to Boost O&G Well Bonds

    November 17, 2021November 17, 2021

The Pennsylvania Environmental Quality Board (EQB) is a division of the state Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP). The EQB is one of the most powerful governmental agencies in the state, consisting of 20 members with the power to create new regulations. Some 11 of the EQB members are appointed by the governor, Tom Wolf in this case. The EQB yesterday voted 16-3 in favor of considering a petition to boost required bonds to drill new conventional wells by 1,500%, and bonds to drill new shale wells by 830%. The new bonds were proposed by virulent anti-fossil fuel groups with the aim to make it too costly to drill new wells. Wolf’s EQB-stacked board is cooperating with the antis.

WV Seeks to Limit Fed EPA Role in Regulating Power Plant Emissions

    November 17, 2021November 17, 2021

A lawsuit filed by West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and the attorney generals from 17 other states (18 states in all) will limit the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and their misinterpretation of the so-called Clean Air Act in order to regulate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. According to Morrisey, his lawsuit is “the biggest case before the Supreme Court” for the 2022 session. We can tell you this: The left is very nervous about the Supremes accepting this case, appealed from a lower court. They didn’t expect the Supremes to take up the case and some say it doesn’t look good for the EPA.

World LNG Industry Launches ‘Carbon Neutral’ Framework

    November 17, 2021December 17, 2021

The so-called International Group of LNG Importers (GIIGNL) yesterday released a framework for transparent emissions reporting and neutrality declarations. The GIIGNL, whose members handle more than 90% of LNG imports worldwide, doesn’t like the patchwork system in place now where companies can on their own claim net-zero carbon emissions for their LNG. So GIIGNL is horning in and claiming *theirs* is the best way to measure low or no “greenhouse gas” emissions. GIIGNL demands Scope 3 emissions be included in the definition of net-zero carbon LNG, something that isn’t a part of most net-zero claims today.

NatGas Use in NY Power Plants Expands, Despite Cuomo/Hochul

    November 17, 2021November 17, 2021

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his successor Kathy Hochul have blocked new natural gas pipelines from the “fracked gas” fields of neighboring Pennsylvania. They seem to be congenitally allergic to fossil fuels. Haters of natural gas. Cuomo also hates nuclear energy. He insisted on shutting down the Indian Point nuclear power plant that once provided 25% of New York City’s electricity. All that juice has to come from somewhere. Thus far, one type of energy is standing in the gap to increase electricity production and prevent mass blackouts: natural gas-fired power plants.

Evangelical Network Celebrates Biden Infrastructure Destruction Bill

    November 17, 2021November 17, 2021

A group claiming to be Christian is celebrating the passage of the economy and jobs-destroying Biden infrastructure bill. The so-called Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) thinks the so-called infrastructure bill will help save the creation they now worship (instead of worshipping the Creator). This group of what can only be described as far-left Democrats is now lobbying to finish the job of destroying the country as founded by passing the so-called Build Back Better budget bill Biden is peddling.

20 New Shale Well Permits Issued for PA-OH-WV Nov 8-14

    November 17, 2021November 17, 2021

Four weeks ago the total number of permits issued in the Marcellus/Utica was 22. Three weeks ago it fell to 9. Two weeks ago the numbers picked up somewhat, with 16 new permits. Last week? There was a combined 20 new shale permits. However, the usual order of things with Pennsylvania dominating the new permit numbers was turned upside down. Last week PA only had 2 new permits (can’t remember the number being that low for months, if ever). OH issued a whopping 11 new permits, and WV issued 7 new permits.

EIA DPR: Shale NatGas & Oil Production Flirt with Record Highs

    November 16, 2021November 16, 2021
    click for larger version

Six of the seven largest shale plays in the U.S. will see an increase in natural gas production in December according to the latest monthly Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) issued by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Sadly, the Marcellus/Utica, collectively lumped together as “Appalachia” in the report, will see the lowest increase of just 7 MMcf/d (million cubic feet per day) in production next month. The M-U’s chief rival, the Haynesville, continues to see explosive growth, an increase of 111 MMcf/d. The oil-based Permian will see an increase in natgas production of 87 MMcf/d due to associated gas coming out of the ground along with oil.

Nuverra Environmental Solutions (formerly Heckmann) is one of the largest companies in the United States that handles the transportation and disposal of shale drilling wastewater and leftover rock and dirt from drilling. The company has major operations in the Marcellus/Utica region. We keep an eye on its performance as an indicator of whether there is more or less drilling happening in the M-U. Although the rig count in the M-U went up year over year for 3Q21, revenues for Nuverra did not.

Report Says Virginia DOES have Say in Pipeline to Feed Power Plant

    November 16, 2021November 16, 2021
Proposed Chickahominy pipeline route (click for larger version)

MDN first told you about plans to build the Chickahominy Power Station, a 1,650 megawatt state-of-the-art natural gas-fired power plant planned for Charles City County (near Richmond, Va.) in June 2018 (see Huge New Marcellus-Fired Power Plant Coming Near Richmond, VA). In September of this year, the Chickahominy project asked the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC), which oversees intrastate pipelines for utility companies, to excuse itself from regulating and overseeing the construction of a pipeline that will feed the Chickahominy power plant (see Va. Power Plant Says State Doesn’t Need to Approve Feeder Pipeline). A state Corporation Commission hearing examiner issued a report yesterday recommending the commission’s three judges reject that request. In other words, SCC does have the right and responsibility to regulate the pipeline.

Philly Suburb Appeals Judge’s Order to Turn Over ME2 Pipe Emails

    November 16, 2021November 16, 2021

In October the owner of the Glen Riddle Station Apartment complex in Delaware County, PA convinced a county judge to order the release of emails between officials in Middletown Township and Energy Transfer, owner of the Mariner East pipeline system (see Apt. Complex Owner Hopes to Find Dirt in “Secret” ME Pipe Letters). The Glen Riddle apartment complex owner is hoping he can find some minor, obscure statement in the email exchanges to reignite opposition to finishing the third and last Mariner East pipeline that runs across his property. Last Friday Middletown Township appealed the judge’s ruling to PA Commonwealth Court, days after a similar appeal filed by Energy Transfer.

Calling PA Rats & Snitches: Report Water Spreading on Dirt Roads

    November 16, 2021November 16, 2021

Anti-fossil fuelers at Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services and the FracTracker Alliance are asking Pennsylvania residents to report the road spreading of oil and gas wastewater. Bear in mind such spreading is legal (if it’s conventional oil and gas wastewater). Also bear in mind other sources of water are sometimes spread on dirt roads in PA, so there’s no practical way to tell if the water you see being spread came from a conventional well or a nearby creek. In essence, these anti groups want to turn PA residents into rats and snitches in hopes of…what? Proving that a legal activity is taking place?

Biden Budget Bill Will Jack NatGas Prices 12-34% for Everyone

    November 16, 2021November 16, 2021

How much more of Joe Biden’s completely failed policies are you willing to tolerate? His so-called “Build Back Better” budget bill, which will cost Americans (YOU) $1.75 trillion (no, it’s NOT paid for by “someone else”), retains a new tax on methane that will jack up the rates everyone pays for natural gas by an estimated 12-34%. The price of gasoline is up 53% year over year for October ($3.291 in Oct 2021 vs. $2.158 in Oct 2020). Similarly, the price of #2 heating oil is up 59% year over year for October ($3.397 in Oct 2021 vs. $2.142 in Oct 2020). The price of natural gas has also jumped–even more!
