WV Sen. Shelley Moore Capito Pushes Federal Permit Reform for MVP

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat from West Virginia, has tried his best to get a “permitting reform” bill passed that would put a stop to the shenanigans being pulled in the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in blocking the 94% completed Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) project. But Joe has a problem. He has become politically radioactive following his sellout vote to approve the New Green Deal bill falsely relabeled as the Inflation Reduction Act. Since that time, Republicans are understandably not in the mood to support Manchin’s otherwise worthy “save MVP” bill. So Manchin keeps reintroducing it, hoping this time will be the charmer (see Politically Radioactive Joe Manchin to Reintroduce Save MVP in 2023). No such luck. West Virginia’s other U.S. Senator, Shelley Moore Capito, is also working on a bill to accomplish the same thing. Her bill appears to have a better chance.

The Ohio Oil and Gas Leasing Commission, established in 2011 by a law signed by RINO Gov. John Kasich, is a five-member group designed to oversee drilling and fracking on state-owned land. After Kasich created it, he refused to appoint members, for years, to punish the oil and gas industry for not endorsing his plan to raise the severance tax rate. In 2017, under threat by the Republican legislature, Kasich finally relented and appointed the five members (see
U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, Republican Congressman from Ohio’s 6th congressional district (in the Utica Shale part of the state), has introduced his first bill of the new session of Congress. The bill is called the Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act. It will allow domestic suppliers of natural gas, including LNG, to export our gas to allies in Europe and Asia after completing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) review process only–cutting out a requirement to have the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) also approve it. The DOE approval takes much longer (years) and has been a choke point. It’s time to end the delays. It’s time to get rid of the weakest link.
In a bid to prop up his in-the-toilet poll numbers, West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (Democrat who voted to screw the country with the Inflation Reduction Act) has joined Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to introduce a new bill aimed at blocking the Bidenistas at the Consumer Product Safety Commission from using federal funding to ban new or existing gas stoves. Since it’s a Republican and a Democrat jointly sponsoring the bill, the bill is considered “bipartisan,” and we can jam that label down the left’s throat. However, even if all Republicans plus Manchin vote for it, we’re still one vote shy of passing it (plus Biden will veto it for sure).
On Tuesday, Freeport LNG, which has been out of operation since an explosion and fire in June 2022, asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for permission to begin introducing feedgas back into one of three liquefaction “trains” (units) at the facility (see
In early January, MDN told you that the Bidenista who heads up the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) floated a trial balloon to ban the use of natural gas stoves across the entire country (see
A false and misleading story by the Associated Press spins all sorts of excuses for why the Bidenistas at the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will not be able to do its job in tracking and enforcing reductions in fugitive methane. Donald Trump is one of the reasons, even though he’s been out of office for more than two years. According to the lying “reporters” of the AP, Trump “gutted” the EPA, and the agency doesn’t have enough help (wah wah wah). There aren’t enough satellites, either. And not enough drone technology. Not enough of this and not enough of that–even with the gazillions of dollars allocated to the agency. The truth that shines through the article is this: The Democrats, including Traitor Joe Manchin, passed a new law last year (the Inflation Reduction Act) that sets standards to reduce fugitive methane–and they have no practical way to know if those standards are being met. Isn’t that typical of the left?
Leftist top-down bureaucracies never work. NEVER. Socialism never works. Communism never works (at least in the long term). They all spring from the same poisoned root–arrogant elitists believe they know better than you how to run your life. They extinguish freedom. Example: The Bidenistas want to make decisions for you about which forms of energy you can and can’t use. They dream about a future where dirty, filthy fossil energy is no more. And they allocate trillions of dollars to make it happen. Then what happens? These egg-headed toads sit around and talk about it–and NEVER distribute the money! They hold endless Zoom calls. They require grant forms filled out in triplicate. And then, no money gets distributed. Welcome to Bidentopia.
Two weeks ago, the Pennsylvania Senate Majority Policy Committee held a public hearing on energy access and affordability. As part of that hearing, Marcellus Shale Coalition president Dave Callahan gave testimony that a problem we’ve highlighted for years is still out of control. The state Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) (a) takes WAY too long to issue new permits for shale projects, (b) when it does issue permits, it is inconsistent in the standards used, depending on which area of the state, and (c) the ongoing permit delays and inconsistency are costing the state jobs.
We simply don’t understand the disturbed minds of the environmental left. Take the recent actions by the leftists at Damascus Citizens for Sustainability (DCS), which is suing the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) after the DRBC adopted most of the rules sought by DCS to permanently block fracking and anything to do with fracking from the Delaware River Basin region. The radicals got 95% of what they wanted, but because it’s not 100%, they are suing in federal court to force the DRBC to start over and achieve 100% of their demands. This is seriously, pathologically, disturbed. We will explain.
Last week Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the Fed will “stick to its knitting” and will NOT wander off the trail into political issues like man-made global warming (i.e. climate change). The purpose and focus of the Federal Reserve is to control inflation via interest rates, thereby strengthening the economy and creating jobs. Powell will not allow the Fed to get caught up in global warming policymaking by forcing banks to require the companies to which they make loans to bow down before the ESG gods. Frankly, we’re surprised and delighted at Powell’s steel backbone on this issue.
