Democrats Launch Witch Hunt into Trump “Deal” with O&G Donors

    May 24, 2024May 24, 2024

As we reported a few weeks ago, former President Donald J. Trump met with members of the oil and gas industry last month at his Mar-a-Lago estate (see Trump Promises to Undo Biden Regs if O&G Raises $1B for Campaign). According to snitches at the event, after one of the O&G big whigs complained about Biden’s attack on the fossil fuel industry, DJT made them all a deal: Raise $1 billion for his reelection campaign and on “Day One” of a new term, he will set about fixing the damage done by Biden to the industry. Which sounds like a good deal to us! We predicted some Democrat Attorney General, like Tish James in NY, will no doubt investigate Trump, claiming yet another felony has been committed. Nope. Not an AG. Instead, Democrat Senators and House members have launched two different investigative committees.

MVP Delays Startup from June 1 to “Early June” – Testing 99% Done

    May 23, 2024May 23, 2024

We suppose it was inevitable following a rupture in a segment of the 303-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) during pressurized water testing (see Section of MVP Ruptures Near Roanoke Under Water Pressure Test) that the in-service date would slip. And so it has. In a filing with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Tuesday, MVP sought to set the record straight about the rupture and signal to FERC that it would now be “early June” before the pipeline was ready to go online. On the plus side, some 99% of the pipeline has been successfully pressure tested, including a replaced segment where the rupture happened in Roanoke County, VA.

Indiana Twp, PA, Postpones Rezoning to Allow Drilling Near Rt. 910

    May 23, 2024May 23, 2024

At a packed meeting last night, the Indiana Township (Allegheny County), PA, Planning Commission voted unanimously (4-0) to delay a decision on rezoning a 59-acre parcel along Route 910 from office/commercial to light industrial — which would allow gas drilling on the site. The room was packed with over 100 people, most of whom were there to oppose the rezoning request. The commission members voted to delay any action for 60 days on a proposal by Cranberry-based MPF Management to rezone the parcel.

Dominion Considers Relocating 4 Gas-Fired Peakers Near Richmond

    May 23, 2024May 23, 2024
Proposed site for the Chesterfield Energy Reliability Center in the James River Industrial Center and the old/existing Chesterfield Power Station site (click for larger version)

Dominion Energy plans to build four small “peaker” electric generating plants in Chesterfield County, VA, a Richmond suburb (see Dominion Plans to Build 1,000-MW Gas Peaker Plant Near Richmond, VA). The Chesterfield Energy Reliability Center in the James River Industrial Center calls for building four 250-megawatt gas-fired power plants (1,000 MW total) that can jump into action during the coldest and hottest days of the year to help supply enough electricity for 250,000 homes. Dominion is now floating the idea it could relocate the project to the Chesterfield Power Station Property (six miles from the current plan), which is the site of four now-closed coal-fired plants.

Virginia Axes RGGI Carbon Tax from New State Budget, Antis Miffed

    May 23, 2024May 23, 2024

In 2021, as he was running for Governor in Virginia, Glenn Youngkin pledged that if he won, he would remove the state from the onerous carbon tax on coal- and gas-fired power plants called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). Youngkin kept his promise, although it took longer than he had hoped (and is still being challenged in court). In a major victory against the RGGI carbon tax, Youngkin negotiated and signed a new state budget that does NOT include any revenue from RGGI. Victory!

PA’s Switch from Coal to NatGas Netted at Least $500B in Benefits

    May 23, 2024May 23, 2024

The switch from coal to natural gas in power generation has led to historic emissions and air pollutant reductions equaling $450 billion to $1.04 trillion in public health benefits for Pennsylvanians, according to a Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) analysis. The analysis leverages emissions data from the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) and applies U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) methodologies to assign a dollar value to each ton of NOx and SOx reduced. As shale gas development became prevalent across PA and in-state natural gas electric generation increased from 5% to 59% between 2005-2022, criteria emissions contributing to respiratory ailments — nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) — are down 81% and 93%, respectively, yielding a range of $7.9-$18.4 billion in NOx and $445.1 billion – $1.02 trillion in SOx cumulative public health benefits for Pennsylvanians.

CNX Exposes Calif. Climate Huckster in Published Email Exchange

    May 23, 2024June 3, 2024

Last week, MDN brought you the news that CNX Resources Corp., KeyState Energy, and Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) are working together on a $1.5 billion project that, if completed, would make sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at PIT from coal mine methane gas (see CNX, KeyState Partner with Pittsburgh Airport on H2 Aviation Fuel). But only if the Bidenistas deeply embedded in the IRS allow coal mine methane to qualify for green energy tax credits. A well-known anti-fossil fueler from California pretending to be a journalist wrote to CNX several weeks before the announcement, questioning the company’s ready-made solution to trap and use coal mine methane. CNX’s VP of External Relations absolutely destroyed the “journalist” who thought she had trapped CNX in a game of gotcha. CNX published the emails to prove it.

AMS Court Hearing Day Two: Comply by July 22 or Jail Time for CEO

    May 22, 2024May 22, 2024

Yesterday was the second and final day of a hearing begun on Monday in Belmont County, OH, Common Pleas Court to determine whether or not Austin Master Services (AMS) and its parent company American Environmental Partners (AEP), along with the owner of both companies, Brad Domitrovitsch, has failed to comply with an order from the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources (ODNR) to clean up and clear out a facility in Martins Ferry that currently holds too much frack waste. The hearing concluded with the judge’s finding that AMS, AEP, and Domitrovitsch are in “contempt” of a previous court directive to get the facility cleaned by April 17. Beginning yesterday, AMS will be fined $200 per day. If the facility is not cleaned up and in compliance by July 22, the judge has ordered Domitrovitsch (who does not live in Ohio) to report to Belmont County jail to serve a 30-day sentence.

Yesterday, MDN brought you the news that Chesapeake Energy, with its headquarters in Oklahoma City, OK, had begun a round of layoffs, supposedly (according to Chesapeake) due to the company divesting from Eagle Ford oil assets (see Chesapeake Energy Brings Out the Ax, Begins Cutting Jobs). Yesterday, we did not know how many people were let go. Today, we have that information courtesy of the company’s hometown newspaper, The Oklahoman. Chesapeake laid off 10% of its workforce, which amounts to around 80 people.

Ohio Landowners Seek Class Action Against Rice/EQT re Royalties

    May 22, 2024May 22, 2024

A group of landowners in Belmont County, OH, filed a lawsuit against Rice Drilling (now EQT Corporation) in July 2021, alleging the company had shorted them on royalty payments by (a) selling the gas extracted to an affiliated (instead of unaffiliated) third party, and (b) deducting post-production costs specifically disallowed under the signed contract. Several landowners who are part of what was originally known as the Smith-Goshen Landowners Group have requested a federal court in Ohio to elevate the lawsuit to class-action status.

PA Bill Closes Loophole Allowing Antis to Challenge Fed Pipes @ EHB

    May 22, 2024May 22, 2024

Anti-fossil fuel fanatics have a tried-and-true playbook in Pennsylvania. They appeal *every single inch* of new pipeline, no matter where it’s located, whether that pipeline flows natural gas, NGLs, oil, or petroleum products like gasoline. Want to replace an existing pipeline in an area? Antis are against it, saying it will saddle ratepayers with “stranded assets” in a few unspecified years’ time (when “renewables” take over). Want to build a new pipeline? God forbid! They go berserk with all sorts of wild claims about pipelines being racist (being built in places where poor folks of color can’t fight back to stop them). It’s disgusting what these liars will do to oppose a new pipeline. One of their favorite legal tactics in Pennsylvania is to appeal a permit issued by the Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) to the Environmental Hearing Board (EHB), a special court in PA that hears appeals of DEP decisions. However, antis are abusing the PA court system.

O&G Heavyweights Hosting Houston Fundraiser Today for Trump

    May 22, 2024May 22, 2024

The left is nervous about the oil and gas sector giving money to the campaign of Donald J. Trump. The New York Times, a bastion of leftist Democrat propaganda, has a headline and story blaring, “Biden and Big Oil Had a Truce. Now, It’s Collapsing.” Bloomberg’s version says, “Oil Titans Help Give Trump an Edge Over Biden in Fundraising.” Both stories reference a fundraising lunch being held today in Houston, Texas. The event will have a Who’s Who in the O&G industry, including Kelsy Warren from pipeline giant Energy Transfer, Harold Hamm, founder of oil driller Continental Resources, and Vicki Hollub, CEO of oil drilling giant Occidental Petroleum. They are ALL opening their wallets for Mr. Trump. And that makes the left nervous.
