PA Lawsuit Blames Chevron Fracking for PFAS Chemicals in Water Well

    November 8, 2022November 10, 2022
    click for larger version

Ever heard the term PFAS chemicals, or “forever chemicals”? We’ve seen lots of headlines over the past few years about PFAS but hadn’t really bothered to research it…until now. We’re always suspicious of these “flash mob” kinds of issues the mainstream media pushes. And with good reason. A recently filed lawsuit in Washington County, PA, Court of Common Pleas accuses Chevron of using PFAS chemicals in fracking that leaked into a local water well and has/is poisoning the landowner and his family. Here we go again.

11/10/22: Several important updates to this story have been added. See below.

Rumor: Dominion Mulls Sale of Remaining 50% Share in Cove Point LNG

    November 8, 2022November 8, 2022

Bloomberg is reporting that “sources” are chattering that Dominion Energy, the majority owner of Cove Point, Maryland, LNG export facility with a 50% stake in the plant, is considering selling its stake. In July 2020, Dominion sold its natural gas pipeline business along with a 25% stake in Cove Point to Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathway (see Dominion Cancels Atlantic Coast Pipe, Sells Pipe Biz for $9.7B). Berkshire Hathaway actually took over the day-to-day operation of the plant, even though it is a minority owner. The other 25% of Cove Point is owned by investment firm Brookfield Asset Management. It appears Dominion is seriously considering dumping its 50% stake in the project.

PA DEP Pledges to Keep a Close Eye on Shell Cracker Air Quality

    November 8, 2022November 8, 2022

Anti-fossil fuelers continue to pressure the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection (and Pennsylvania itself) over the grievous sin of approving the Shell ethane cracker plant project (see Shell Receives Air Quality Permit from PA DEP for Cracker Plant). With the cracker plant now in startup mode, antis want to know, “Who monitors Shell’s cracker plant — and how?” The partisan leftists of so-called PublicSource hit the DEP with that very question. The DEP said that while Shell itself must conduct constant (daily) monitoring of air quality using independent, third-party equipment (sending the data to the DEP), the DEP will also conduct its own regular on-site inspections and testing as well.

2 Days Before Election Biden Promises “No More Drilling” re Offshore

    November 8, 2022November 8, 2022
President Joe Biden speaks at a campaign event for Gov. Kathy Hochul, Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022, at Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York. (Patrick Semansky / AP Newsroom)

Joe Biden can’t help himself. When you get to a certain age, the motto becomes “older and bolder.” That fits Biden. His handlers hate it when old Joe goes off script–when he shares his true thoughts. It happened yesterday, two days before the all-important mid-term election, when Biden slipped up and revealed he is committed to blocking all offshore drilling. At least, that’s what we think he meant. We’ll explain.

O&G Finally Wakes Up, Responds to Biden’s Unprovoked Attacks

    November 8, 2022November 8, 2022

The oil and gas industry has had enough of Joe Biden’s unprovoked and vicious (we’d call them irrational) attacks. Biden demands more drilling, and the next day he says he’ll ban drilling. Biden says Big Oil is making too much money, then threatens to end the use of all fossil energy. Biden routinely does this Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine. Recently, Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, held private talks with Big Oil about low inventories of heating fuel and diesel. “The tone was cordial,” say those who participated. The very next day, Mr. Hyde turned up to blast away at “outrageous” profits in the oil industry, demanding companies lower prices at the pump. Big Oil has had enough and is speaking out.

30 Companies Generate Half of Energy Sector Methane Emissions

    November 8, 2022November 8, 2022

Just 30 fossil fuel companies account for “nearly half” of so-called planet-warming methane emitted by the world’s energy sector. That’s according to a new analysis by Global Energy Monitor. And get this, only three of the 30 are American fossil fuel companies. And those three are WAY down the list. The #1 leakiest methane emitter on the planet is the National Iranian Oil Company. The #2 biggest emitter is Gazprom (Russia). And #3 is China Energy. In fact, the top 10 biggest methane emitters are located in the Middle East, China, or Russia. All of them are enemies of the United States.

    VOTE! Today!! Please!!!

    November 8, 2022November 8, 2022

Today is national election day in the United States. It is VITAL that you vote, especially if you believe in keeping a free and open society with access to cheap, clean-burning fossil energy. Borrowing a phrase from New York candidate for Governor, Lee Zeldin, “Vote as if your life depends on it. Because it does!”

We must turn back the insanity of the left in attempting to phase out fossil energy. Fingers crossed that today will be the beginning of the end for the Bidenistas holding power.

Tiny Fire Quickly Extinguished at Equitrans Pipe Metering Stn SWPA

    November 7, 2022November 7, 2022

On Friday, November 4, at approximately 6:45 am, the Bentleyville Fire Department responded to a 911 call by a resident regarding a small fire near Equitrans Midstream’s H-108 natural gas transmission line, located in Bentleyville Borough, Washington County, PA. Apparently, a valve caught fire. The fire was small and contained and was extinguished by 7:30 am. No injuries, no big explosions–overall a pretty minor incident. However, just to be safe, the nearby Bentworth School District canceled classes for the day, which of course, made the headlines in nearby Pittsburgh and gave anti-fossil fuel chatterers something to chatter about.

Coterra 3Q – Reserves Down 32-36%, Upper vs. Lower Marc. Testing

Coterra Energy was formed one year ago (October 2021) when Cabot Oil & Gas merged with Cimarex Energy. Coterra issued its third quarter update yesterday. The company made $1.2 billion in profit last quarter, versus making just $64 million a year ago. Natural gas production in the Marcellus was 2.21 Bcf/d, down just a tick from 2.36 Bcf/d produced in 3Q21. The company generated over $1 billion in free cash flowing during 3Q. Coterra uses its free cash flow to issue dividends, buy back shares, and retire debt sooner. Even with all the good news, a little bit of “bad” news spooked the stock market. Coterra said its Marcellus reserves (gas in place that can be economically extracted) went down by 32-36%. Coterra’s stock tumbled as much as 8% during trading on Friday. The stock price has begun to recover.

Olympus Energy’s 4th Upper Burrell Well Pad Wins Unanimous Approval

    November 7, 2022November 7, 2022

Upper Burrell (Westmoreland County, PA) town supervisors held a hearing last Wednesday, and following that hearing, voted unanimously to approve a new well pad proposed by Olympus Energy. This is the fourth such well pad approved by the town. Unlike previous meetings, no one (of the 20 or so residents attending) objected to the project. The well pad is 630 feet or more from about 20 homes–which is farther than the state-required setback of 500 feet.

Partisan “Environmental” Groups Spend Millions to Boost Shapiro

    November 7, 2022November 7, 2022

A group of so-called environmental organizations that are IRS tax-exempt is really nothing more than a political front for the Democrat Party. We’re talking about PennEnvironment, Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania, and the odious National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), three groups that have collectively poured nearly $5 million into advertisements this election cycle supporting the anti-drilling, anti-fracking, anti-Marcellus Josh Shapiro. Why these organizations are still tax-exempt is a mystery to us, as they are completely partisan (Democrat), a violation of the federal tax code.

CNX Underwrites Office Space for Nonprofits, Small Biz in SWPA

    November 7, 2022November 7, 2022

We continue to be impressed with CNX Resources and its CEO Nick DeIuliis. CNX and the CNX Foundation are having a huge impact on the southwestern Pennsylvania (and tri-state) region where the company operates. In the past, we’ve told you about CNX and the work it is doing supporting underserved communities and populations in the tri-state region with $30 million in donations (see CNX Walks the Walk – Shows Disadvantaged Kids Path to Self Worth). CNX has done it again. This time the company is using some of its own office space, leasing it on the cheap as a “co-working” space for nonprofits and small minority and women-owned businesses in southwestern PA to use.

Anti-Drilling Zealots Continue Attacks on Tiny Mass. Peaker Plant

    November 7, 2022November 7, 2022

Anti-fossil fuel zealots in Massachusetts are taking aim at a small “peaker” power plant that would generate up to 55 megawatts of electricity purely as a backup. The plant will be off most of the time, yet antis are attacking the plant like it’s radioactive. The small peaker plant is planned for Peabody, MA. The ultramodern plant (very low emissions) would be located next to two older peaker plants. Yet antis claim (falsely) that it will exacerbate problems in that region that “already experience higher rates of cancer, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary heart disease and stroke.” A fake report from the Massachusetts Climate Action Network says the peaker, which will be off most of the time, will make it worse for those living in the region.

In September, MDN told you about a relatively modest-sized gas-fired power plant planned for Superior, Wisconsin, called the Nemadji Trail Energy Center (see Midwest Elec Grid Roasted for Supporting New Gas-Fired Power Plant). As we pointed out in that post, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) supports the project, which earned it scorn from climate cultists. The left is doing everything they can to stop the plant, including the Biden EPA. The EPA said a review of the project failed to take into account how much mythical global warming it will create.
