Even Unhedged, Cabot O&G Still Makes Profit with $2 Gas

    January 27, 2020January 27, 2020

How many times over the years has MDN made this observation, using words along these lines: Cabot Oil & Gas is the only Marcellus drilling we know that can spin gold out of straw. Meaning they make money even at some of the lowest natural gas prices in the country, found in northeastern PA. A recent post by an energy investment advisor examines Cabot’s unique ability to make money at low prices.

PA Awards 4 More Grants to Extend NatGas Pipelines – $2.3M

    January 27, 2020January 27, 2020

Pennsylvania’s Pipeline Investment Program (or PIPE) grants cover part of the cost for building new natural gas pipelines to connect homes and businesses in rural parts of the state to homegrown Marcellus Shale gas supplies. We’ve written about many of the more-than-a-dozen (so far) PIPE grant projects in the past (see our PIPE stories here). Another four such grants, totaling $2.3 million, have just been awarded–in Chester, Monroe and Northampton counties. The big news with this latest round of grants is that they will create 575 *permanent* new jobs in the Commonwealth. Some 500 of those jobs will be at a mushroom farm!

Antis File Lawsuit to Cancel MarkWest Compressor Permit in SWPA

    January 27, 2020April 20, 2022

Big Green groups are colluding on a new lawsuit aimed at overturning a permit that allows a compressor station located in Smith Township (Washington County, PA) to continue operating. Gee, color us surprised.

Dominion’s SWPA JP-40 Pipeline Replacement Project Set to Begin

The new Dominion Energy Western Area HQ in Salem Twp

We recently became aware of a small (very small) Dominion pipeline project in western PA while covering the news of another smallish Dominion pipeline (see PA DEP OKs Dominion Pipeline to Feed PA NatGas to OH Power Plant). The PA Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently issued a 401 certificate for the JP-40 Pipeline Replacement Project located in Salem, Hempfield, and Penn Townships, Westmoreland County.

EnCap Keeps $6B Spigot Open to Fund New Shale Drilling

    January 27, 2020January 27, 2020

EnCap Investments is a venture capital investor that funds independent companies in the U.S. oil and gas industry. EnCap has its fingers in a number of pies in the Marcellus/Utica. According to a Bloomberg article, EnCap plans to use a pile of $6 billion in cash it’s sitting on to drill new oil and natural gas wells this year. EnCap currently runs 23 drilling rigs at its various portfolio companies. Two of those companies drill in the Marcellus/Utica.

The Positive Impacts of Mariner East Pipeline Across PA

    January 27, 2020January 27, 2020

Seems like all we see in mainstream media are articles bashing Energy Transfer’s Mariner East (ME) NGL pipeline projects. Most of the negative press comes from southeastern PA where the pipeline has hit snags in building through Philadelphia suburbs. Imagine our surprise in seeing a guest editorial in a southwestern PA newspaper supporting the ME project, a column that details just how this massive project has benefitted the Keystone State in numerous ways–all across the state.

Danny DeVito is Pro-Shale! Runs for PA State House in SWPA

    January 27, 2020January 27, 2020

We almost didn’t run this post, but, well, it was just too funny not to! Danny DeVito is running to become the next representative for the 45th District of the Pennsylvania State House, located in Allegheny County (i.e. Pittsburgh). And he’s running as a Republican on a pro-shale drilling platform! Wait, isn’t Danny DeVito that really short Hollywood actor who’s an uber-liberal and hardened Democrat?! Indeed he is. But we’re not talking about *that* Danny DeVito.

Finally! EPA, Army Corps Releases Final ‘Waters of the U.S.’ Rule

    January 24, 2020January 24, 2020

One of the worst overreaches and offenses of the Obamadroids was to redefine what “waters of the United States” (or WOTUS) actually means. As they were getting ready to leave power, the Obama EPA redefined WOTUS as everything down to large mud puddles–no lie (see EPA Power Grab: Redefines Waters of the U.S. to Include Everything). When Donald Trump took over, he set out to correct Obama’s conceit by bringing the WOTUS definition back into the realm of reality. That happened yesterday.

FERC Delays Action on PennEast Pipe Eminent Domain Ruling

    January 24, 2020January 24, 2020

There have been a number of twists and turns for the PennEast Pipeline project, a $1.2 billion new greenfield pipeline project from Luzerne County, PA to Mercer County, NJ. The project has not yet moved one shovel of dirt due to ongoing delays from lawsuits by (disgusting) Big Green groups and their colluders, mainly the Democrats who now run the state of New Jersey. Here’s one more twist–the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) delayed weighing in on a request by PennEast for help regarding clarification on the use of eminent domain.

NY’s Largest Landowner Group Opposes Cuomo’s Permanent Frack Ban

    January 24, 2020January 24, 2020

As we reported earlier this week, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo intends to take full advantage of a far-left, Democrat-controlled state legislature, in order to pass a permanent (for all time) ban on fracking (see NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo Wants to Make Frack Ban Permanent). New York’s largest landowner rights group, the Joint Landowners Coalition of New York, has just issued a statement warning Cuomo not to pass such a ban.

FERC Commissioner Bernard McNamee Stepping Down in June, Unless…

    January 24, 2020January 24, 2020
    Bernard McNamee

This is a major disappointment. Bernard McNamee, the former head of the Department of Energy’s Office of Policy, was approved to be the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) newest commissioner in December 2018 (see U.S. Senate Confirms McNamee to FERC with 50-49 Vote). He is one of two Republican FERC commissioners currently serving. Yesterday McNamee said he will not seek reappointment to his position in June of this year, when his initial term expires. Unless…

EIA: U.S. Net Natural Gas Exports to Double by 2021

    January 24, 2020January 24, 2020

For many years the U.S. has imported natural gas. When you look at how much natural gas we import versus how much we now export, via LNG and pipelines, the difference is a number called “net exports.” The U.S. now exports more natural gas than it imports. The U.S. Energy Information Administration is fresh out with a report that says our “net export” number is set to *double* in the next two years.

Utica Shale in Quebec – click for larger version

Last March MDN told you that Questerre Energy, a Canadian driller who has patiently waited for years to begin drilling on their extensive Utica Shale acreage in the St. Lawrence Lowlands of Quebec, Canada, had hammered out an agreement with joint venture partner Repsol to buy out Repsol’s ownership interest in 753,000 Utica acres (see Questerre Energy Picks Up Another 753K Utica Acres in Quebec). The deal is now, finally, done. The question is: Will Questerre ever get to drill on their acreage?

Underground Compressor Boosts Shale Gas Well Production 62%

Upwing Energy, an artificial lift technology company headquartered in California, announced earlier this week it has successfully completed a field trial of an underground compressor system in a “liquid-loaded” unconventional shale gas well located in…Indiana?! We had no idea there are *any* horizontal shale wells in Indiana. This was the first full-scale commercial field trial of their new technology and it resulted in a 62% increase in natgas production, and a 50% increase in liquids production.
