PA State Senator Introducing Bill to Supercharge State Gas Industry

    January 29, 2025January 29, 2025

There’s a reason the Haynesville shale play in Louisiana and East Texas drills more wells than both the Marcellus and Utica shales combined. That reason? Lower taxes and less regulation. Particularly compared with Pennsylvania, where the taxes and “fees” are high and regulations are far too restrictive. Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano, who ran for governor against Josh Shapiro in 2022, is proposing to correct the situation with a new bill that would suspend the state income tax on shale drillers, among other positive moves. Bucks County, PA Lawsuit Against Big Oil Profits Lawyers $25M+

    January 29, 2025January 29, 2025

In March 2024, we reported that two Democrats and one anti-drilling RINO who run Bucks County, PA government (a Philadelphia suburb) fell for the bait by Big Green and filed a lawsuit against Big Oil companies for supposedly, knowingly, causing the Earth to toast to a cinder (see Bucks County, PA, Sues Big Oil for Causing “Climate Change”). The lawsuit seemingly came out of nowhere. It was hatched secretly by green groups, including the Center for Climate Integrity (CCI) – a Rockefeller-funded D.C. activist group. There were no public meetings. No public input. No public announcements. It was completely hush-hush, with a total media blackout until the lawsuit was filed (see Bucks County, PA Lawsuit Against Big Oil Violated Transparency Law). Here it is a year later, and finally, the truth is coming out. The leftist law firm working on behalf of Bucks County stands to make enough money (if successful) for everyone in the law firm to retire. It’s grotesque and disgusting and CORRUPT. Chevron Building 7 New Gas-Fired Power Plants for Data Centers

    January 29, 2025January 29, 2025

Big Oil is entering the Big Power market in a Big Way. Last December, the country’s largest oil and gas producer, ExxonMobil, announced it is working on a plan to build a massive 1,500 MW gas-fired power plant to power a data center(s) in a location not yet disclosed (see ExxonMobil plots natural gas power plant to exclusively power data centers). Now comes word (yesterday) from the country’s second-largest oil and gas producer, Chevron, that it has formed a partnership to build at least seven gas-fired power plants next to data centers. Some of the power plants will be located in the Southeast, some in the Midwest, and some in the West. The plants in the Southeast and possibly the Midwest will use Marcellus/Utica gas to power them. FERC Unanimously Dumps GHG Policy for Evaluating Pipeline Projects

    January 29, 2025January 29, 2025

In February 2022, three Democrat Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) commissioners voted to adopt and immediately begin using new guidelines for approving pipeline projects by taking into account mythical global warming (GHG) factors (see FERC Democrats Ram Thru Global Warming Policy for Pipe Decisions). Barely a month later, in March, all five FERC commissioners, including then-Chairman Richard “Dick” Glick, voted to convert those new policies back into draft mode, meaning they don’t officially apply (see FERC’s Glick Does “Abrupt About-Face” on New Global Warming Regs). Since that time, the agency has used the guidelines in an unofficial capacity when evaluating pipeline projects. No more. Last Friday, all five FERC commissioners (three Democrats and two Republicans) voted to ditch the draft GHG guidelines for good. As Lord Obama famously said, “Elections have consequences!” Read More “FERC Unanimously Dumps GHG Policy for Evaluating Pipeline Projects”

A Look at Ohio’s Utica Condensate/Light Crude Drillers, Part 2

    January 28, 2025January 28, 2025
Condensates are in the light-colored bottles on the left (click for larger version)

Condensate production (super-light crude oil) in the Utica Shale’s volatile oil window in eastern Ohio has more than doubled over the past three years. The small number of drillers that focus on drilling for condensate in Ohio (about half a dozen) are due to increase their output of condensate in 2025 and 2026. Who are these drillers? Why do they see such promise for condensate growth in the Utica? And, how are they measuring their success? Read More “A Look at Ohio’s Utica Condensate/Light Crude Drillers, Part 2”

China’s AI Announcement Tanks U.S. Stocks, Including M-U Drillers

    January 28, 2025January 28, 2025

Did you happen to catch the news lighting up all the cable news stations yesterday about Chinese startup DeepSeek? The company launched a free AI assistant that it claims uses less data at a fraction of the cost of other AI models. By Monday, the DeepSeek assistant had overtaken U.S. rival ChatGPT in downloads from Apple’s app store. The news sent traders into a tailspin of selling off tech company stocks like Nvidia (which makes the chips used in AI). The news also affected natural gas drillers negatively. Why? Trump’s First-Day EOs Nothing Short of Revolutionary for Oil & Gas

    January 28, 2025January 28, 2025

We don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that the Trump freight train hit and ran over the left’s radical environmental agenda in a single 12-hour period on January 20th when newly-inaugurated President Donald J. Trump signed a flurry of Executive Orders (EOs). The Trump train hit and ran over the left, and they still don’t understand (can’t conceive) just how fundamentally and deeply they’ve been defeated. They can’t accept that their power has been completely emasculated. Their fantasy world of forced renewable everything is GONE. Now, renewables have to compete with fossil energy, and it’s no competition. No more shaming and blaming oil and natural gas (and shale energy). How did everything change on Jan. 20th? Let’s break it down for you, blow by blow… Read More “Trump’s First-Day EOs Nothing Short of Revolutionary for Oil & Gas”

HG Energy Well Fire Near Jane Lew, WV Quickly Extinguished

    January 27, 2025January 27, 2025

A fire was reported at a natural gas well near Jane Lew (Harrison County), WV, on Saturday at around 2:15 pm. Multiple fire departments responded. One media report says the well location is listed as the Stickel Pad belonging to driller HG Energy. There were no injuries, according to 911 officials. The fire was extinguished within a few hours. Other than those barebones facts and a few photos (below), that’s all we know about this incident. The incident doesn’t seem to be a priority for local news media outlets to cover. Diversified Energy to Buy/Merge with Maverick Natural Res. for $1.3B

    January 27, 2025January 27, 2025

Diversified Energy, with major assets in the Marcellus/Utica region (assets in other regions, too), owns approximately 8 million acres of leases with 67,000 (mostly) conventional oil and gas wells. The company’s business model is to buy lower-producing wells on the cheap and find ways to make them more productive. The company made a major announcement this morning. It has struck a deal to buy out and merge with Maverick Natural Resources for $1.28 billion. The deal adds over a million more acres of leases to Diversified plus significant new production. FERC Thumbs Nose at Court, Reinstates Cert for Transco REAE Pipe

    January 27, 2025January 27, 2025

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision last July vacating (nullifying) the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) approval of Transco’s Regional Energy Access Expansion (REAE) project to bring gas from Pennsylvania to New Jersey and Maryland (see DC Circuit Libs Reverse FERC Approval of Transco Northeast Expansion). On Jan. 21 (last Tuesday), the D.C. court denied a petition from Transco to rehear its earlier decision to vacate the FERC permit, meaning those portions of Transco touched by REAE were due to go offline by tomorrow, Jan. 28. Good news. On Friday, FERC commissioners thumbed their collected noses at the court and fully reinstated the vacated certificate for REAE, avoiding any downtime for the expanded pipe. National Rig Count Falls Again, Lowest in 3+ Years; M-U Steady

    January 27, 2025January 27, 2025

We’re in full crash mode with the Baker Hughes national rig count. After losing five rigs three weeks ago, and four more two weeks ago, the BH rig count lost another four rigs last week—13 rigs out of circulation in three weeks. The number of rigs nationally now stands at 576, the lowest since Dec. 2021 (over three years ago). The Marcellus/Utica rig count was a combined 34 last week—the same number for six weeks in a row. PA has operated 15 rigs for the past 11 weeks, with the exception of one week, when the number briefly increased to 16 rigs. OH has operated nine rigs for the past eight weeks, and WV has operated 10 rigs for an astonishing 20 weeks in a row, going back to Sep. 13.
