Potential Exxon Interest in Building M-U Cracker Plant Goes Cold

    September 22, 2020September 22, 2020

Last year MDN shared with you the rumor that Exxon Mobil was sniffing around Pennsylvania, investigating the prospect of building a multi-billion dollar ethane cracker like the Shell cracker being built near Pittsburgh. Those rumors went on for a while and even included evaluation of the Philadelphia area, not just Pittsburgh. Last week Exxon said unequivocally they have no active plans for such a facility in the Keystone State. Bummer.

Cove Point LNG Down for Maintenance for Next 3 Weeks

    September 22, 2020September 22, 2020

It’s that time of year again. Each fall Dominion Energy takes the Cove Point LNG export terminal offline for annual maintenance work. Every time it happens, the plant is offline for roughly three weeks. We expect the same this year.

PBS Up Snitz Creek with False Reporting re ME2 Pipe Problems

    September 22, 2020September 22, 2020

We don’t know if PBS StateImpact Pennsylvania “reporters” are just sloppy in their reporting, or if they intentionally lie. Either way, it doesn’t look good for StateImpact. PBS reporter Jon Hurdle’s latest Big Green hit piece, published yesterday on StateImpact, is wholly manufactured out of nothing. He claims there are continuing problems with drilling for the Mariner East 2 pipeline project at Snitz Creek in Lebanon County, PA. There are not.

Mass. Senators Ask Enbridge to Delay Weymouth Compressor Startup

    September 22, 2020September 22, 2020

Last week Enbridge asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for permission to bring its Weymouth, Massachusetts compressor station online by Oct. 1 (see Enbridge Asks FERC to Start Up Weymouth Compressor in 2 Weeks). Because of a brief problem during testing, Massachusetts U.S. Senators Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren and Ed “Lackey” Markey are pressuring (bullying) Enbridge to delay the start of the Weymouth station.

DOE Secretary Visits Shell PA Cracker Site, Talks Up Fossil Fuels

    September 22, 2020September 22, 2020

We love U.S. Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette. He’s smart, articulate, and a supporter of all forms of energy, including fossil fuels. He also doesn’t suffer climate change fools well. Brouillette visited the Shell ethane cracker plant under construction in southwestern PA yesterday. He had some great things to say about petrochemicals, fracking, and (yes) even about so-called climate change.

Marcellus/Utica Shale Insight Event Goes All Virtual This Year

    September 22, 2020September 22, 2020

Almost every year MDN editor Jim Willis attends what he considers the best shale event in the Marcellus/Utica: Shale Insight. The event was created by the Marcellus Shale Coalition under Katie Klaber ten years ago. Jim has attended all but two of them in that time. Superb event. It’s usually hosted in Pittsburgh. This year, because of COVID-19 concerns and restrictions by the state, the event will be completely virtual. Shale Insight will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1. Because it’s virtual, there’s no excuse for you not to attend!

Fraudulent Poll Claims 72% PA Residents Support High Carbon Tax

    September 21, 2020September 21, 2020

The results of a new “push poll” aimed at brainwashing people (as opposed to an honest poll reflecting people’s actual opinions) have just been released claiming most Pennsylvania voters think a $2.36 billion tax they will pay over the next 10 years after joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is just lovely.

Claims of PA LNG by Truck & Rail as “Bombs on Wheels” Disproven

    September 21, 2020September 21, 2020

Antis continue their public relations push to try and block a northeastern PA LNG liquefaction plant in Wyalusing, PA planned by New Fortress Energy (NFE), by claiming the LNG that will be shipped from the plant to the Philadelphia area, via trucks and rail, will be rolling “bombs on wheels.” However, an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer debunks those lies.

Is PTT Going to Build a Cracker in Belmont County, OH…or Not?

    September 21, 2020September 21, 2020

We have another article today that looks at a current issue from both sides–whether or not PTT Global Chemical will, in the end, build a $10 billion ethane cracker plant in Belmont County, Ohio. We’ve written many articles about the potential PTT cracker plant since April 2015 when PTT, a huge petrochemical company based in Thailand, first announced they would consider building an ethane cracker plant in Ohio (see It’s Official: Belmont County Chosen as POSSIBLE Cracker Plant Site).

Enbridge Using Solar Farm to Power TETCO Compressor Station in NJ

    September 21, 2020September 21, 2020

Enbridge, the owner/operator of the Texas Eastern Transmission Pipeline Company (TETCO), is building a first. The company is building a compressor station in Hunterdon County, New Jersey that is all-electric. Building an all-electric compressor isn’t a first (although it’s not typical). What is a first is where the electricity will come from to power it–a big, ugly 12-acre solar farm sitting nearby.

Antis Continue Attacks on PennEast Pipe 2-Phase Construction Plan

    September 21, 2020September 21, 2020
    Jiu-jitsu

Anti fossil fuel zealots, citing their hatred of “fracked gas,” continue to attack a plan by PennEast Pipeline to separate construction and build the pipeline from northeastern PA into New Jersey into two phases–build the PA portion first, and the NJ portion later. PennEast Pipeline is a $1.2 billion, 118-mile brand new (greenfield) pipeline project planned between the Wilkes-Barre, PA area and the Trenton, NJ area. The project has faced stiff opposition from nutty Big Green groups and from the Democrats who have seized control of NJ.

Sec. of Energy Dan Brouillette Touts Ohio Fossil & Petchem Energy

U.S. Dept. of Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette published an op-ed in the Warren, OH Tribune Chronicle to tout Ohio’s place as the fifth-largest natural gas producer in the country, and the Trump Administration’s support for and hope that it continues. Brouillette says Ohio has “only scratched the surface” of its energy and economic potential, thanks to the Utica Shale.

In June the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued final approval for Equitrans Midstream’s 75-mile expansion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) from southern Virginia into North Carolina, a project called MVP Southgate (see FERC Approves Mountain Valley Pipeline Southgate Extension to NC). Well-funded Big Green groups immediately filed a “rehearing” request, the first step on the way to a court challenge. Yesterday FERC commissioners denied the rehearing request.
