Fed “Clean Electricity Standard” New Carbon Tax on Power Plants

    August 9, 2021April 20, 2022

Get ready for another body blow from the radical Democrats who now run the country (Biden & Congress). They are preparing to slip a noose around the neck of natural gas-fired power plants with their upcoming so-called “reconciliation” bill in which they plan to reward big donors and radicalized environmentalists by destroying the coal and gas-fired power plant industry. The way they plan to do it is to introduce a so-called “clean electricity standard” (CES) in the reconciliation bill. It’s new language (new lipstic) on the same old pig of fossil fuel hatred. The bill contains a carbon tax applied specifically to fossil fuel plants that produce electricity. Sound familiar? PA Gov. Tom Wolf is trying this in his state with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). The new federal bill in essence forces the equivalent of RGGI on all states everywhere. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN. RESIST!

Energy Transfer: Mariner East Volumes Up in 2Q, Project Done in 4Q

    August 6, 2021August 6, 2021
    click for larger version

Remember Winter Storm Uri, the big storm that knocked out power and halted the distribution of natural gas in Texas in February? It led to the highest prices for natural gas ever seen–in some cases over $1,000/MMBtu (see Cash NatGas Price in Oklahoma Hits $999/MMBtu; M-U Thru Roof Too). The storm was a disaster for many people, but not for pipeline giant Energy Transfer (ET). During ET’s second quarter update, company officials said Uri netted the company an extra $2.4 billion in revenue. But it’s not Uri nor frankly other regions of the country we’re concerned with when it comes to ET. The main thing we want to know about is the status of finishing up ET’s Mariner East 2 (ME2) pipeline project.

Chesapeake Energy Uses Halliburton E-Fracking in NEPA Marcellus

    August 6, 2021August 6, 2021
VoltaGrid – Chesapeake Energy Pad – Wyalusing, PA

Halliburton is reporting it used an “advanced” electric fracking solution for the first time (partnering with VoltaGrid) on a Marcellus well pad in Bradford County, Pennsylvania for Chesapeake Energy. This project is the first pad in a multi-year contract with Chesapeake. What makes this e-fracking “advanced”? Halliburton joined its massive Zeus 5,000 horsepower electric pumping unit with VoltaGrid’s advanced power generation system. The combo is the first pairing of the two.

In May MDN told you about one of the oddest combinations in recent memory–the merger of Permian driller Cimarex Energy with Marcellus driller Cabot Oil & Gas (see HUGE NEWS: Permian Driller Cimarex Buying Out Cabot Oil & Gas). Given the negative reaction by stock analysts and investors, we had hoped maybe the deal would fall apart (see Markets “Baffled” by “Unexpected” Cabot Merger with Cimarex). Cimarex delivered its 2Q21 update yesterday and judging from the talk on the conference call with analysts, the deal is still very much on and will close later this year.

Antis Get Judge to Block Brooklyn LNG Truck Depot – Shortage Coming

    August 6, 2021August 6, 2021

MDN previously told you about so-called environmentalists filing a lawsuit to block the construction of an LNG unloading facility in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (see NYC Antis Sue to Block Brooklyn LNG Truck Depot – Shortage Coming). National Grid, a huge utility company that supplies natural gas to all of Long Island, including two New York City boroughs (Queens and Brooklyn), needs a way to inject more natural gas into its distribution system…or else. The radicals have somehow convinced a low-level judge to temporarily block construction at the Greenpoint site.

FracTracker Lies Exposed re Fracking Impacts on PA Watershed

    August 6, 2021August 6, 2021

FracTracker Alliance, a virulent leftist group that pretends to offer up science about fracking but instead offers demonstrably false lies about fracking, has just been exposed for the frauds they are. The FracTracker Alliance recently released a report (a “digital atlas”) supposedly showing the harmful impacts of natural gas development in the Lycoming Creek Watershed, located primarily in Lycoming County, PA. It’s a complete fraud and sham, financed by Big Green money. The Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) is not letting the fraudsters get away with it.

Lack of NatGas Investment Leading World Down Path to Energy Crisis

    August 6, 2021August 6, 2021

In something of a strange twist, the Bloomberg News service is sounding the alarm that the world is headed for a shortage of natural gas. Bloomberg hates fossil fuels and anything to do with them. Yet they now sense an impending shortage of natural gas and it’s causing the Bloomies some existential angst. Bloomberg reports natgas prices in Europe have “surged more than 1,000%” since May 2020 with no end in sight. Earth to Bloomberg: Europe has no one to blame but themselves. They don’t want our “fracked gas.” Let them buy Putin’s pipelined gas at extortionist rates.

Reuters: Mixed Signals at Chesapeake Energy, No Clear Strategy

    August 5, 2021August 5, 2021

Reuters is reporting things aren’t so rosy at Chesapeake Energy these days. You may recall the company exited bankruptcy in February (see Chesapeake Emerges from Ch. 11 Bankruptcy, Stock Restarts Trading). A few months later CEO Doug Lawler was canned (see Doug Lawler Out as CEO of Chesapeake Energy). In June, three top vice presidents who reported to Lawler were also canned (see Chessy’s Head Driller, Head Lawyer, and Head Accountant Get Fired). Chesapeake board chairman, Mike Wichterich, took over as interim CEO while the company conducts a search for a permanent replacement. It is leaked comments made by Wichterich to Chesapeake staffers that is raising some eyebrows.

Warren Buffett’s Towanda LNG in Wyalusing, PA Officially Online

    August 5, 2021August 5, 2021

Last December MDN told you that a REV LNG small-scale LNG facility near Towanda (in Wyalusing, Bradford County, PA), had successfully supplied LNG to support the bunkering of a marine vessel at the Port of Hamilton in Ontario (see Northeast PA LNG Powers Cargo Ship from Canada to Detroit). That facility, owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, is now fully online and producing 50,000 gallons per day of LNG (liquefied natural gas). In fact, the facility has produced more than 1 million gallons of LNG to date.

Equitrans 2Q: Boosting M-U Takeaway to Other Mkts, MVP Coming 2022

    August 5, 2021August 5, 2021

Equitrans Midstream issued its second quarter update earlier this week. Naturally, all eyes were on information and updates related to the company’s 303-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) from West Virginia to Virginia, which is now 92% complete. We have an update on MVP. However, it was a stray comment by Diana Charletta, President and COO, that caught our attention. Equitrans recently conducted an open season related to the Equitrans pipeline, looking to expand capacity along the pipeline to the Midwest and Gulf Coast.

Antis Attack Pipe Expansion to Feed NatGas to Indiana Power Plants

    August 5, 2021August 5, 2021
Proposed pipeline to feed Indiana gas-fired turbines (click for larger version)

In June MDN told you about CenterPoint Energy, a power generator looking to shutter portions of its coal-fired generation fleet and build two natural gas combustion turbines in Indiana (see Will New 460 MW Gas-Fired Plant in Indiana Get Approved?). The two units would provide a combined 460 megawatts (MW) of electricity as a backup to CenterPoint’s wind, solar, and battery storage. Antis are trying to strangle the project by attacking the pipeline that would feed it.

Americans’ Right to Use NatGas Stripped Away by Infrastructure Bill

    August 5, 2021August 5, 2021

No doubt you’ve heard plenty in mainstream media recently about the $1 trillion so-called infrastructure bill currently being debated in Congress. What the mainstream media won’t tell you is the truth–that this bill is incredibly bad for the country in its current form. The bill includes measures allowing more federal control over state and local building codes to force everyone to adopt Biden’s “appliance electrification” plan by discouraging the use of natural gas in homes and businesses. Yes, Biden plans to phase out your right to burn natural gas in your furnace and in your stove. Welcome to the USSR.
